Question Does anyone know about Type 2 Diabetes & Pregnancy

I am a veteran PCOS'er but I was just newly diagnosed as type 2 diabetic.
I'm concerned with getting pregnant. I want nothing more in this life to become a mother. My family is concerned with my eagerness due to being diabetic. No one in my family has been diagnosed this young, and no one in my family seems to have any fertility problems so they don't understand. I am concerned enough for my children's well being, and I don't want to do anything that would make me have unhealthy babies. Has anyone gone through this before? Should I wait till I lose more weight, or am at a healthy weight? I've only been on metformin for a month, we weren't thinking about trying until early next year. I'm just confused and have no one to talk to about this. Any help would be appreciated.

I was told by my gyno as long as my A1C was below 6 I had the green light. It took me 2yrs to conceive. I lost 50lbs prior to starting TTC and took 1500MG of MetER. I was very much worried just as you said. I would sugest talking to your gyno. Mine sent me to a diabetes clinic and I was given tons of information pre TTC. It was a very scary road but everything turned out fine. The main thing is keeping your diet under control and being closely monitored by your Endo. I was in contact with my Endo almost daily during the first few months of my pregnancy. Good luck.

I am not diabetic (that I know of) With my second daughter, my sugars were out control from day one of my pregnancy. I had to be on insulin at 16 weeks. My OBGYN was concerned that I had diabetes before I got pregnant. He made me for for a fetal heart ultrasound. He was somehow worried that the diabetes would affect the baby's heart development. But keep in mind he thought I had uncontrolled diabetes prior to getting pregnant. I would ask your OBGYN about diabetes and pregnancy.

I am sure there are plenty of diabetic mothers that have given birth to healthy babies. I would ask my dr about it. Good luck!

I hope this helps.

Yeah I agree with both these posts! My mom was diabetic when she had me, and she had very little trouble until delivery. Not to scare you but her doctor let me get too big which is what happens alot to diabetic mothers. But as long as your doctor is vigilent you will be just fine. They did have to put my mom on insulin but that is really not as big of deal as people make it out to be! After I was born she went back on Met. You will just have to watch your sugars a little closer. And you will probably have to check in with your doc a little more often then most other preggers! Good luck, you will do fine!
