I don't have an answer for you, but I can give you my experience. My diagnosis of PCOS came about after a similar situation. We had been TTC for more than a year. My period stopped. I felt nauseous. I was tired. I was gaining weight. I was sure that I was pregnant. My doctor was sure that I was pregnant. We tested 3 different times. I went 3 months before I had a period, and when I did, it was very heavy and very painful. I had PCOS, and it was out of control at that point.
It could be either one. I would talk to your doctor, but my guess is that your PCOS is out of whack, especially if you are gaining weight. At the beginning of my pregnancy, I felt really bloated, but I wasn't really gaining weight. During the period nearly 2 years ago that I described above, I felt like I could gain weight after breathing.
