just got my bloodwork back and have no idea if 121 is high?...
my doctor is no help... what is normal?
121 can't be right. cause i think mine was in the 30's like close to fourty. and the norm is like below 15 or 14. so um yeah. you sure it was 121? and how was your doctor know help? he should have been able to tell you. or if it was high he would have told you. you would have though. hmmmmmm
All I can remember my was more than double the normal average amount. The normal range might of bene higher but i just can't remember. but i def. know it was in the 100's. I don't think it's possible to be 121.
Are you being treated by an Endocrinologist for your PCOS? Above 50 is considered elevated. When mine are above 22 or so my PCOS symptoms increase. I have to take two anti-androgens to keep my levels down. Here is a link with lab test results for PCOS: http://www.inciid.org/faq.php?cat=co...rymed&id=2#113

this paper says
testosterone, total 121H
testosterone,%,free 0.6
testosterone, free 7.6
i don't know what any of this means... she said it was "a little high"...
I'm going to see an endocrinologist on the 16th... hopefully he will be a little more helpful, but I'm so anxious to get this thing figured out!
Anyone who knows how to interpret these rsults, please help!

This is from the link in my last post:
Total Testosterone Day 3 Range- 6-86 ng/dl (your high here)
Free Testosterone Day 3 .7-3.6 pg/ml (Your high here too)
Testosterone is secreted from the adrenal gland and the ovaries. Most would consider a level above 50 to be somewhat elevated.
lab test should be done during the first days of your cycle, if possible. Hormones are steady at that time.

My testosterone levels were at 80 in Sept. and my doc told me that 50 was considered elevated. I would definitely discuss some sort of anti-androgen meds with your doctor. If he's not willing or well versed in this treatment of pcos and elevated androgens I would highly suggest you find a doctor that is.
thanks so much for explaining that...she said it was "a little high"... seems like that was an understatement... she prescribed me Metformin 500mg a day and told me to come back in 4 months and we'll see how it is going. (4 months to me seems like an eternity)...
I told her I was losing alot of hair and she shrugged it off, pretty much said the Metformin would help it grow back which, from what I understand about that medication, it doesn't assist with regrowth... Is this lady bananas or what?
I'm seeing an endo on Mon because if i lose one more hair I am going to lose my mind...
Speaking of which... does anyone have any encouraging words on my hair growing back?... Or even advice on how to get it to? It's really affecting my state of mind.
Thanks
~CH

I'm not insulin resistant, but the metformin helped lower my Testosterone levels some. My Endocrinologist started me at 500mgs then went slowly went up to 2,000mgs a day.
Metformin helped me in so many ways: Stopped unexplained weight gains, began having menstrual cycles, I just have an overall feeling of wellness on it.
I did continue to lose hair so I asked about options. She prescribed an anti androgen (Spironolactone) I took the Spiro/Metformin combo for three years. It helped almost all of my PCOS symptoms. It didn't stop the hair loss, but slowed it down.
Well last year my Testosterone levels started climbing back up. I now take an additional Anti androgen (Flutamide) It has not only stopped the hair loss, but I actually have regrowth going on. I recently had my hair professionally colored and styled for the first time since my eighth grade graduation! I have regular lab work done. My Testosterone has stayed between 22-25 since staring Flutamide. I guess my body is happy at this level. I am just so excited about having my hair back. Please don't wait too long for proper treatment. I fired my first Endocrinologist to find one who would treat me properly.

Thanks for that info and the encouraging words. Your the first person who has said anything positive about hair being able to be regrown...
I feel like everything else I can get a handle on and manage sucessfully, but the hair loss really scares and depresses me... Thanks again... If anyone else has had positive results on regrowing hair I would really love to hear about it.
Just wanted to say hello. I'm going through a similar disagreement with my endo. He wants me on a low dose of met, come back in 3 months. I asked about spiro, flutamide, have severe male pattern baldness and hair growing everywhere else. i really felt blown off, i'm going back one more time in june, and if he's not willing to treat me more aggressively, i'm finding a new endo. My total testosterone was 79, free 14.5, also which my dr said was "a little high", but talking to many women on here, many people are treated for their high androgen levels with more than just met.
When I first had blood work done, my total testosterone was 125. I was put on 750mg Met XR. I will be on that level for 3 months-- and am going back in for a check up next month. I haven't seen AF and I really haven't noticed any other changes. I will wait and see what the next blood test comes back with. Good luck to you!
