Does anyone know what these tests are? Poss. clotting disorders?
I finally found the letter from the genetic counselor. Does anyone recognize any of these tests?
"Thrombophylia studies which include Factor V mutation, Factor II mutation, MTFHR mutation studies, serum level and function of protei C, protein S and antithrombin III.
"In addition, one should consider ruling out collagen disorder through checking ANA and anticardiolipin antibodies."
It also says that Eric's birth defects were called limb-body wall complex, and it might not have been caused by amniotic band syndrome.
I made an appt with my doctor. Hopefully, he'll schedule the tests. If not, I have to find a new doctor. Yippee!!!

I guess they saw some clots when they did the testing on your baby? I'm glad you may have some answers. Definitely get these tests done!
I tested positive for factor v leiden. It is one of the inherited thrombophilias. I am currently on baby aspirin, and will be on Lovenox (blood thinner) once I get a BFP.
With the blood clotting problems, there are two kinds--inherited (you get from mom and/or dad) and acquired (you develop). The most common inherited thrombophilias are factor v leiden, prothombin/antithrombin, protein S deficiency, protein C deficiency and MTHFR. The most common acquired ones are antiphospholipid syndrome, lupus anticoagulant, and anticardiolipins. I'm not as familiar with the acquired ones, but maybe someone like Meghan can chime in here.
The inherited thrombophilias are linked somewhat to early m/c's, but tend to be more likely to cause later losses as well as pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia. The acquired ones show a stronger link to early loss, but also they are linked with later losses and pregnancy problems.
Treatment for it all (regardless) is usually a prescription blood thinner (either Lovenox or Heparin) starting either right after ovulation or right at a BFP. There is some disagreement on this, but most of us also take a daily low dose (81 mg aspirin) while TTC and pregnant.
Good luck and let us know how the testing goes.

I was going to reply with exactly what SABTeacher posted above!
Some are hereditary and some are "acquired'. I have "antiphospholipid antibody syndrome", which is acquired.
I agree that it's a good idea to test for these things. You'll have a lot of blood drawn - maybe 6 or 7 vials - and it takes a week or two to get the results back.
My RE just ran a few more tests and it looks like I tested positive for anticardiolipins as well. So now I have an acquired problem as well as my inherited one! Thank God for Lovenox. I'll be a human pin cushion during my pregnancy just like my other cysters.

Seriously, the end justifies the means...I vaguely remember a few stings as the heparin went in, but I don't care whatsoever anymore...

It's not so bad...the shots. once you find your good spots - the spots that don't really hurt so much -- it becomes tolerable. But every so often you hit that one that makes you want to slide under the bed because of the burn. oh gosh...i remember those.
but hey, the bruises got me sympathy points. I used to tell DH...See! I am a delicate flower! LOL
I'm starting to freak out a little less. So what if I have to give myself shots? I talked to my DH, and he said he'd do it.
I'm going to see my regular OB on the 26th. Hopefully he'll do the tests. If they come back positive, then I can't see him anymore. If they're negative, I can see him, and hopefully get pg soon!!
I just want to say that having women who are in the same boat really helps. Seeing that you've had healthy babies gives me hope. No one I know has this much crap to deal with just to have a baby. They don't understand and so they try to trivialize it. I figure someone's tryin to see how far I'll go to have a baby. Well, that's pretty damn far!! Whoever's testing me has a run for their money!!
I know I'm really strong. God wouldn't have given me Eric if I wasn't. I feel like I can handle anythign!

Lovepotato - this is exactly what I said to myself. Well, guess what? THE SHOTS ARE NOT A BIG DEAL. The needle I used for heparin was 28-gauge and about the size of a safety pin. It was also only 1/2 inch long. Plus you give yourself the shot in the "fatty" part of your stomach, where you can't feel much anyway.
Sometimes (only sometimes) the heparin would sting while going in, but it was only for a few seconds and totally worth it.
My RE's nurse showed us how to do the shots, then DH did the first one and I did every one after that for the next 9 months or so.
You can do it!
