I use differin gel from my dermatologist. I think I may have over used it though. My skin is really dry, red and flaking where I used it. What can i use to heal this and make it better?? All ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

Counting the days until my husband comes home from Afghanistan, December 4th at 8:33pm, but hey who's counting?!
It does sound like you've overused it. How often are you applying? (Should only be nightly, every other day or once every three days for the first few weeks)
I would say back off for about a week, and use a lotion like cetaphil to help your skin heal.
I used differin for a while many years ago, now I use retin-A.
When you start back up, remember a little goes a really long way. You may be able to mix the differin with whatever lotion you're using and apply it that way to "buffer" the effect.

I used Differin many years ago, and I experienced the same thing as you. I agree with montana_in_la - stop using it and use a calming lotion to heal the skin (also aloe vera is quite nice if you are not allergic to it).
When you start it again, use small amounts and then gradually build it up to more continuous use and slightly larger amounts when you feel your skin has adapted to it better.

Dx'd Oct 2008 & started alternative medicine route after stopping bc pill in June.
Current regimen:
ADHS Dietary Supplement
Testo Quench (w/ Saw Palmetto)
Spearmint tea - 2-3 cups/day
Cinnamon in unsweetened soy milk
No grains, dairy, alcohol, sugar & salt
30 min. cardio & strength training every other day
Yoga once a week
1 week in: acne clearing up, chronic dandruff GONE!, and ovulated for the first time in I don't remember.
You can also try wiping your face with a cotton pad soaked with witch hazel. Then while your skin is still moist, apply the Differin. The witch hazel is soothing, wont make your face break out, and will help make a small amount of Differin go farther.
Differin and Retin-A work well once you get through the initial breakout and peeling phase but if you are ttc beware these should not be used in pregnancy.
