Default Does Gluc wear off?

I was just wondering if anybody has had experience with gluc wearing off or losing its effect after a long while of taking it. I begged my doc to up my dose of gluc from 1500 to 2000 because it was no longer working. He uppped it and it started to work again and it did for a few months.. now on 2000 for about 5 months and it seems that it has stopped working again. I crave sugar all the time and when I eat sugar I dont even get the met runs anymore. Gas.. I get alot of gas, but not the runs. What is up with this? Im starting to worry. I have already gained back about 20 of the pounds that I lost last year. It is totally freaking me out. I dont know what to do about it.

Im telling you that my gluc has stopped working. HELP.

Peace and Love

Deni

Deni,

I was on 1500mg for well over a year when bloodwork showed my IR was no longer being adequately treated on this dose. My RE upped it to 2550mg and I go back for my next round of bloodwork in about a month.

So yes- the 1500mg dose "wore off" for me- I am hopeful that this new dose is enough to do the trick.

Hang in there!

I've not noticed that it wore off, really - but one thing I did notice was that when I stopped taking it for a few months this time last year (got pregnant, but lost it at 11 wks) that when I started back, it worked even better than before. I've been on it for several years now, and so far, it still seems to be helping me.

But then again, we've also proven that I'm an alien, so that may have something to do with it.

I have been on gluc for about two years. In the begginng, it appeared to work but now I am on 1750mg daily and still nothing happening. I would like my doc to up my meds soon. I would like to know too if gluc could wear off.

I would say that mine has stopped as far as controlling my cravings. When I first started on Glucophage, I was at 1000 mg. I didn't want to eat for a little over a week. But the cravings came back. I really didn't have any diarhea, though. But once I bumped up to 1500 mg., I thought, okay, the cravings should disappear. And they did - for about two days! And here is the weird thing...my husband came to visit me for about a week and I decided to kind of 'cheat' on my carbs diet while he was here because he is such a good cook. That whole week, even though I was tanking up on carbs (his homemade enchiladas are WONDERFUL!) I didn't have diarhea. When I started eating my vegetables, etc., again after he'd gone, the diarhea came back. Go figure on that one!

I don't know why the medication only seems to curb your cravings for awhile...I'd like to know that myself!

Default I guess what I'd like to know is...

What is making you say that it isn't working anymore? Is your Free Androgen still dropping? Is your Testosterone dropping? IS it helping insulin resistance? Or are you solely basing your insecurity of it's effectivness on something exterior like weight loss?

Can you give me some more info? Thanks.

Also, Melissa Anne: the drug is not intended to control your cravings..you have to use your own self-discipline and low carb eating habits. Your cravings were probably under control that first week because it made your tummy upset, not because of the drug directly.

Default MOT AGAIN

The reason I said Gluc may not be working is because I haven't had AF without provera but once. I have heard it would help level you Progestrone or whatever levels that needed to be leveled.
