Default DOes having your thyroid fixed help you have AF?

My doctor refuses to give me metformin because I'm technically not IR (even though I had three other doctors suggest it to me) and he thinks I'm hypothyroid. I'm taking 50 mcg of synthroid starting tomorrow. I'm thinking of doing this for one month and seeing if I get my period and hopefully lose weight. I gained 20 lbs in four months (10 of them in the past two weeks) with no dietary changes and working out 5-6 times a week (thanks to fit cysters.) Has anyone had any luck getting their period with their thyroids in check? It doesnt make any sense to me as to why i'm not getting mine. I work out intensely, count my calories, and supposedly not IR.
Any input would be highly appreciated.

Has your thyroid actually been checked? It sounds like he thinks that the issue so he's putting you on Synthroid. If that's the case, get a new Dr!

I can tell you that I've been on Met & Levothyroxine (generic Synthroid) for about a month & I haven't really lost any weight & haven't gotten AF w/o Provera.

Are you working out and dieting too? Maybe that's why you haven't lost much weight yet. I also heard that it takes a few months for synthroid to work because you have to find your right dosage. I think that applies to Met too.
I was checked for everything. I don't have IR. It's not even borderline actually. My thyroid was the thing that was over, I have like a 6.97 when it should be half of that. I was wondering if anyone else had absolutely no IR but were hypothyroid and if they managed to get AF.
I'm thinking if I don't get it in 1 month I'll try Provera.

Yes, I workout & diet...in fact, I lost more (20 lbs) w/in 3 months before I was dx'd than I have while on Levothyroxine although I'm basically maintaining so at least it didn't make me gain!

If you're hypothyroid, you should definately be on something to control it regardless of if it brings on AF or not. Getting AF from getting your thyroid in check is just an added bonus if it happens!

Good Luck!

I agree, I shouldn't ignore it and take something that wont do anything to help me (like the Met in my case.)
Thanks
By the way, congrats on your weight loss!
I would loooove to lose 20 pounds. Hopefully this treatment along with my diet and exercise will help out!
