I don't know if hypothyroidism increases your risk of PCOS, but my Endo said if you have PCOS you have a 30% chance of having thyroid problems.

When I started my treatment for hypothyroidism my doctor told that it was likely for new things to appear and 9 months later I was diagnosed with pcos, it was as if my medicine was making my pcos stronger, because before my metabolism was slow, and all the symptoms went totally crazy, my insulin resistence, acne, hair problems, just to name a few. I thought it was my synthroid causing all these issues, and on top of that I gained like 32 lbs within 2 weeks. One of the things that pushed the doctors to do a test on me was my intolerance to cold, it was like 80 degrees outside and i was cold, especially my feet and hands.

pcos can cause all types of things. all those hormonal things, think of them like a line of dominoes, when one goes down, it knoks over another. I started out with just pcos, then had hyperthroid/graves disease, now i am hypothyroid. hormonal and autoimmune stuff seems to all hang out together!

if your thyroid meds r too high or you are use to being really low, when you start putting that hormone back in, your skin gets some oil to it and when you are hyperthroid i know it will make sking oily, and your hair and nails grow faster. when you are hypothyroid, everything is drier and grows slower. so you may not notice the hair growth as much when you are hypo and not taking meds. i know it does to head and body hair so i am guessing that would include our 'special' areas that not all ladies get hair growth. some symptoms of hypthyroid are loss of eyebrow and head hair, also leg and arm, underarm and in extreme cases i have read even pubic hair.
SORRY I JUST BUSTED UP AND ANSWERED SOMEONE ELSES QUESTION! forgive me!

Just like yonana said before me,my metabolism was slow when I was hypo and not taking meds, from my hair growth, my skin, vision, cognitive thinking, moods, no energy and so many other things, I had no idea such a small gland had such an important function on my body. What my doctor explained me was that since my metabolism was slow once I was to start taking my thyroid replacement medicine, this was going to start to speed up my whole body, and any other underlaying health issue that i had at the moment. Before my skin was very dry, now it is somehow normal and not as ashy as before because my body was not producing the oils that it needed. My hair grows faster and I'm not as cold as I used to be. I did notice that I started having acne and a growth of hair under my chin that I never used to have, I started to notice that I am sensitive to carbs, sugar and just about any high calorie food. I found out that I am insulin resistant. I have always struggled with my weight, and never had a regular period, so I suspect that I have had both and maybe my hypothyroidism took over, once I had that under control my pcos was still there hiding waiting to tell me OK. here I am!!! My thyroid symptoms were going to away and my pcos was not, so now I have to try to fight it off. I hope this helps you...
