Question Does IR lead to type II

OK so my insulin level was 17.4 after a 10 hour fast. Still within normal range, but over 13 is suppose to be IR. In another posting Cystermoon gave a list of symptoms I have all of them! I have diabetes on both sides fo my family. Should I be concerned about eventually being diabetic if my ob/gyn says that I am not IR next Thursday when I go in for my ultrasound for PCOS detection. Another question has anyone with PCOS had to do saliva testing. I have to spit into 11 test tubes for the next month and send them off to Great Smokies Diagnostic Labratories. Is this a good way to test for PCOS in addition to an ultrasound? Sorry so long winded.

Let me just say, I was told I was NOT insulin resistant when I started seeing my endo. Six months later I was full-blown diabetic. I don't think the tests they do to test insulin resistance are real reliable...I am guessing they weren't in my case! You don't just go from normal to diabetic overnight. There is a gray area.

So, yes, I do believe inulin resistance is a precursor to diabetes. But I have to tell you from experience...treat yourself as you are insulin resistant no matter what the doc says. I developed diabetes AFTER starting glucophage and AFTER I started excercizing. My endo told me it was just genetic for me...my pancreas was going to poop out sooner or later. But it could have been later if I had been more careful with my carbs.

Hello, and welcome!
IR is a precursor to diabetes, and I believe the most misdiagnosed. I was IR most of my 20's but I was never diagnosed. doctors can never agree on what is normal range on IR or diabetes, for that matter.

I've never heard of doing a saliva test. I'm not sure how that can detect PCOS.
