I have cystic acne. My acne is pretty much hormonal according to my dermatologist. I can't take antibiotics cause it causes me to have spotting and I don't need to mess around with my cycles. Does losing weight help with acne? I'm obviously overweight. I am hoping that there is some truth to that because i don't want to have acne for the rest of my life. It definitely makes me feel insecure.
i used to have sever acne boils/cysts on my face until i started using a chinese herbal soap i found on ebay, its calledLILY CHINESE HERBAL SOAP.
I used it for about a month and my skin was so much better.
Yes, I believe that losing weight definitely helps with acne. I became a vegetarian at the beginning of this year, and my skin is pretty much clear now, after a lifetime of acne. Sugar & dairy are the worst things to eat for your skin, in my opinion. Worse than bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.... I still eat those things, and my skin is the clearest it's ever been. I've done Atkins and similar plans in the past, and they have cleared up my skin, but I was miserable eating those foods. What I don't eat now is sugar, dairy, any processed/junk food, and any meat product (I do eat seafood). I still eat a lot of bread, pasta, etc.... I eat a lot of fruit now, too (which is full of natural sugar)
So, what I"m trying to say is that there are certain food groups that trigger acne. Try and eliminate one of those food groups every 2 weeks, and see what happens. Not only will you lose weight, your skin will clear up too!

I get the cystic acne really bad when I am actually ovulating and developing a good egg. Unfortunately I get one large pimple that won't go away for 3 weeks or more when it happens. I will get a lot of little pimples but they usually come and go within a day or so of O'g.
I had horrible cystic acne starting at age 11 and up . The only thing that helped me was being on accutane , i still had moderate acne after being on it three times . Being on treatment for my PCOS and taking met , spiro , and yasmin at the age of 37 is making my skin the best its ever been . I have suffered my whole life until last year when i found out i have this disorder and the doctor is actually helping me .
I agree with rosered352006. I had really bad acne up until my mid-30s when I tried Accutane. After 7 miserable months, the acne was still there. The dermatologist recommended spiranolactone (also used for PCOS), but I went with Yasmin, which has a similar effect. I stayed on that for about 5 years.
I recently decided to go after the underlying cause and am treating with Insulite system and other supplements. Like AnnaL, I've gone off sugar too. I've lost a few pounds and am amazed that my face hasn't broken out. I'd go for the underlying cause (IR, hormonal unbalance) in whichever treatment regimen is right for you.

I don't know about the weight loss, but are you on any meds?
If you want to go the natural route, I'd suggest researching Vitex which improved my skin by at least 80% when I was on it.
As Anna L pointed out, some food groups definitely exacerbate acne, even if we do have a hormone problem to explain the acne. I am planning to cut out dairy although first I'm swapping to goat's milk, cheese, yogurt, to see how my skin goes (as apparently goat's milk is much better tolerated than cows).
Another thing that improved my skin was ground flaxseed. I bought a mini coffee grinder from Amazon and I grind them daily. I've noticed a DEFINITE improvement!
Good luck. Acne can be pretty devastating and it's worth all the effort if you see results at the end of it!
