Default Does met have effect on mood?

Two weeks ago I went to the doctor. I hadn't had a family doctor before, being 31 and healthy. So I had a blood screen, and told her that while nothing was seriously wrong, I had a slew of symptoms that I thought huddled together to signal PCOS (weight is a HUGE problem, greasier hair and skin, big breakouts, no periods, mood swings, and the damn hair on my chin!).

Sure enough, in the blood screen she found high levels of insulin (blood sugar was fine; in fact my tends to the low side). I think she said a level of 24 whatever; 20 was normal but I've read that anything over 10 can be a problem.

So anyway I'm put on two 500 mg metformin (one morning, one evening). I've been doing this for about a week. Can all the following be the result of that? After about four days I started noticing:

- fluid retention is GONE. I used to have a big problem with that, and now its GONE.

- much lower stress level; less anxiety, worry, etc. Sunny disposition... sort of like the old me!

- improved clarity of mine -- I don't feel that overwhelming tired and dumpy feeling, so I'm more alert and sharp.

- obsession with food is gone. Now part of it is being not really interested in eating after being in the bathroom... uh... having a bad time 8 times a day! But honestlyl, I used to be the type that would eat a huge meal and still crave candy... could this be due to high insulin?

- I spotted (the first sign of a period I've had in eight months) during day five.

In general I'm thrilled as hell! Could this just be a fluke, or is this ****ty little pill (pun intended) really doing all this?

I'm so happy it is working well for you! That is great news. I can tell you that I can tell if DD forgets hers, just by her mood She has had wonderful luck with gluc. She has lost weight, clear skin, more energy but if she forgets. Oh, my. Look out! She is so moody we just all run and hide. LOL Actually, I hand her her med and tell her to take it for us if not for her I think insulin resistance/ diabetes can play havoc with all of the systems in your body. The trick is getting it balanced. Sounds like you're really on the right track!
