Met will more than likely help with your lack of energy and lethargic feeling. Spiking insulin levels can do a lot to ones body. I'm not sure if it would help with depression though. I suppose it depends on the root of it.
I don't want to discourage you.. but metformin has not helped at all in the energy department. I think it works different with everybody though. I have been on it for about 3 months and I am still ill all the time(upset stomach, tired, achy). but his could also be other symptoms of PCOS. About the depression part, i am unsure, but i doubt it, as I am having a very blue day today as I am getting tired of pills and feeling like this. this probably hasn't helped, but this is my experience with Met. hope things go well for you!! Christy
I take Met myself.
I don't think it actually helps in the depression dept. The first time I took Met I was so tired all the time, it made me sleepy. It doesn't have that effect on me this time. It doesn't actually give me energy, but I feel normal.
I find the more my hormones are regualted, the less depressed I get. Metformin regulated my hormones, so I don't know if it is actually the Met that lessens the depression. But it sure helps in so many other ways.

Hi there,
Met hasn't helped me in any way, but it has other people. Are you taking anything else? I'm thinking of asking about thyroid meds when I see my doctor on Wednesday.
I've been on many many anti-depressants, etc., some have helped, some haven't. I really think that getting your hormones under control as well as they can is an important step. I don't know how long mine have been so high...maybe that has been the basis of my problems for all this time.

I feel like Met has helped with my depression. Maybe it's the Met, spiro and bcp all together, but I went off my anti-depressants about 3 months ago because I don't have insurance and the drug company said I made too much money to be on their patient assistance program. So, I made the decision to stop taking them because I didn't feel like paying for 4 meds out of pocket, not the medically correct thing to do but oh well. Anyway, I've been doing well so far and I think it's because the met, spiro and bcp are regulating all the hormones that were screwed up in my body. I started taking met right around the time that I stopped taking wellbutrin. May be conicidence or may be wishful thinking on my part but something's working. Not to say that I don't feel depressed at times but I feel better just in general as though I was still on the wellbutrin.

I found met. to ease with depression a little bit. Since i was very depressed with my parents loss and now for the past 20 days i am able to control myself.
The most bad side effect is that i am always feeling sleepy and i am sleeping at day time. I never used to sleep in daytime before. Please does anyone has any tips to cope with this or why met makes us to sleep.
