Question Does Met help with PMS???

I've been taking 2000 mg's of metformin for approx. 3 yrs., and now have 2 beautiful boys aged 10 mos. and 2 1/2 yrs. I've slipped up in taking my Met as regularly as I should, and I've noticed that I have been *so* moody.

I just wonder if since the Met helps regulate the insulin, if maybe it helps with PMS symtoms, too???

Its difficult to say if its PMS in general it helps... or if because it helps to level out hormones it in general just keeps you from being moody. I know for me when I wasnt on glucophage I was pretty moody all the time! For the last year that I've been on it... I notice I only get PMS... except when I'm on clomid too... then I get a little extra moody! lol

I wondered the same type of thing, and what I figure is this....if met helps regulate your cycle, it does so by helping regulate your hormones. When mine were CRAZY out of whack, I had major mood swings. After being on met for a while, I really noticed a change in that, and I think its because of the hormone balancing act.

AMEN to Bertie about the clomid, and same goes for provera.....especially the provera for me!

PMS was kind of a new thing for me in the beginning, because my Afs were so wacky, I don't think my body knew whether it was coming or going! When I first started the met, I did seem to have more PMS-like mood swings, but since then, it has kind of leveled off...more predictable now. I would think it's a function of getting my hormones straightened out now. If you haven't been on a real regular cycle taking your met, that could be part of it. The medication is not staying at a constant level in your body, and you will have "swings".
