Default Does Met really help? Share your story!

Dr. plans to start me on Met. Will I really loose weight? ovulate? have regular AF? less mood swings? live happily ever-after?

It has really made a difference for me as far as weight loss, mood, etc. I am currently using birth control so I don't know about AF.

I took Met and am taking it now. When I took it twice before I lost weight, felt great, ovulated and got preg soon after starting both times. This time I am doing birth control to lose all the weight and get the PCOS under control. I think it works differently for everyone and you do have to exercise and watch your diet. It does help me tremedously.

Met helped me lose weight combined with a lower carb lifestyle which brought me regular AF very soon after starting both. Every month on the dot, unless I eat lots of carbs and then it comes late. However, I have been moodier on it according to everyone I live with but I've been on it over a year so they just have to put up with it now! lol. x

I have been taking Met for a year come Dec. It is honestly the best thing that ever happened to me. I am getting regular af's, my cycle is about 28-32 days long, I have lost weight and all in all just in a better mood. I have really been able to tell a differance in myself.
Good luck!

I started Met in Aug 2001. I refused to chnage my diet and by itself, met lowered my male hormones slightly, but they were still abnormal. I lost a minimal amount of weight (13 pounds in 12 months), my cholesterol was too high and my periods erratic.

In Jan 2003 I started eating to control my insulin (IR Diet) and cranked up my exercise to 4 days a week. It was like a new drug. Overnight my side effects stopped and within 6 monts all of my labs were normal. My periods started coming every 28-32 days instead of every 28-70 days! I started losing weight at the rate if 2-3 pounds a month instead of 1-2 pounds a month. So it was slow, but steady.

Met can really help, but it has it's limits on it's own. If you're prepared to eat so you don't counter-act the drug and exercise regularly, the odds of you succeeding are even better!

Good luck!

After starting Met at 750mg this summer I began having regular AF's but not O'ing. In October I doubled the dosage to 1500mg and ovulated and got a bfp! So, for me, it has worked and feel like happily ever after is right now.

This is the first time I've been on Metformin so after having baby #2 I will continue with Metformin and see how that helps with losing weight. I am excited to see what it can do for me in that respect. But I will work hard on it too.

Best wishes for you! I sincerely hope it will help you.

I was on Met 850mg twice a day for about three months and I lost alot of weight. 328.5lbs to 288.5lbs in only three months. I was suprised because my Dr. told me that I would have to diet and exercise to see such dramatic results and I was to lazy. I also started Oing for the first time ever which was a shock to my system. I was on BC to regulate AF and I don't know about the mood swings you would have to ask my friends. I lost my health insurance and have gone off all of my meds. I have only gained back about twenty pounds. I am looking for new health insurance so I can get back on my meds esp the Met and my antidepressants.

Default Still new with the MET!

Hi ladies. I have only posted a few times, just found this site a few days ago. I was just recently put on the met, I've been on it for 10 days, with taking just 1 pill a day (850mg). So far, I can tell a difference in a few ways. I haven't had any nausea or anything like that, thank goodness. However, I am noticing that I am more tired! I also have noticed that my appetite has changed, there have been days where I have to make myself eat! I am just not hungry! I will double the dose this weekend, so that will be interesting. But I appreciate all the input on the drug, I am all new at this, and it is helpful to hear you all talk about it! My goal is to get the insulin under control, loose some weight (I'd like to loose about 40 pounds) and try again for baby. We've lost 2 babies in the last year. SO, I am releived to know that I have a "problem" and that with meds and diet/exercise I can hopefully get it back in control. So, that is where I am at with it.

Are you on a good multi-vitamin? Met can depelete vit B12 which can make us feel sluggish, so it is reccommended to take a supplement with B12 and calcium (to absorb the B12 better). I felt like a new women when I started a good supplement...it felt like night and day difference!

Good luck!

Thanks to all responding!!
Got my script filled. Starting Met. Dr. wrote for 500mg/three times a day! That is 1500mg!!! Should I go 1500/day or build up? Anyone have problems starting with 1500mg/day? Thanks again for all the empathetic ears and advice.

LOVE MY CYSTERS!!!!
