Default Does Metformin help with acne and anovulation?

Going on from Diane to Metformin now and am wondering if Metformin helps with anovulation (will I get periods) and acne. Diane has helped with the acne and I have had monthlies but now worried that Metformin might not help with both. Any experiences out there? Thanks!

ETA: Also I've been reading about hair loss while on Metformin by some of the posters. I've lost quite abit of hair while waiting for Diane to kick in. Does Metformin cause hair loss as well? I have been prescribed just regular Metformin 500mg. Should I ring my doctor and ask?

I started Met 25 days ago. Before I started it, I had horrible acne, lost hair like crazy, and hadn't ovulated since I went off BC pills 1 year ago. Met has completely cleared up my acne, I don't lose nearly as much hair now, and this month I ovulated for the first time since going off of BC! Now I'm just waiting to see if we get our BFP. I occassionally have some stomach issues with Met, but I think the benefits far outweigh the s/e.

Hey Erin- do you mind if I ask what dose you're on and if you are IR? Thin/overweight? (Sorry if that's too personal) I'm just wondering if it will work for me the same way it does for you.

For about a mo, I've been on 1000mg/day and I just increased to 1500mg today. I haven't noticed any improvement to speak of with acne, no weightloss (but only about 10 lbs to lose), mild/moderate GI s/e. So far, it's only messed up my cycles (was cycling on Chinese herbs for 1st time not on BCP) and now I'm not o'ing at all- just getting af WAY early when I should be o'ing.

Anyone else have this in the beginning and then gotten improvement?

Liza, you have a great question!

I was wondering if it would help me to ovuate too. Last time I took Met I was on fertility treatments and got preggers w/ DS. Last month I took Provera to end my cycle and had my period for about 9-10 days. I started Metformin again during that time and I also chart w/ TCOYF and it appears that I've ovulated on CD 11! NEVER DONE THAT B4! So I'm hopeful it's not a fluke and that it continues to happen every month! Maybe I'll get a BFP this month That would be sweet!!

Met definitely helps me have a regular period...unfortunately, it does nothing for my acne. The only thing that helps me is birth control pills.

Thanks everyone for pitching in!

Can I also ask if anyone is on Metformin and BCP at the same time? Does that combination contradict one another in terms of sugar levels in your blood?

Although I've never taken met w/ BCP, I've heard of other people doing it. I think it's fine.

Still not sure if met is helping me or not. I have lost a few pounds due to eating less. I think with my body performing more efficiently and my blood sugars level, I'm just not as hungry. Still wondering if it will help my cycles.

I am curious about what ppl have to say about this too.
I just came off of Diane 35 on October 8. I had a withdrawl bleed on the 12th Oct, and I haven't seen a period since. I took a pregnancy test last week, and it was negative. I am bummed. I was hoping that my body would cooperate after being on Diane 35 for 7 years.
Also, my skin is breaking out. I never had an acne problem before. Ugh.
I am curious about Metformin. I want better skin again! Oh, and to be pregnant!
