I've been on metformin for 6 months or so at 2000 mg and I have yet to ovulate on my own, every 8 weeks or so I enduce a period with provera; any advice? my dr just says give it more time, but I'm fustrated...
Hi Rocheyl,
I can only speak of my experience with metformin, but am happy to do so. I was on 1500mg for over a year with no results, I have been on 2000mg for almost a year with no noticable results, however my RE has said that it makes me very easy to stimulate with the injectables that I have been doing. I got pregnant in Oct thru IVF but the pregnancy ended in Dec. In Jan I started to take 2500mg, still no results that I can notice...ie no ovulation on my own, or weightloss. So if you ask me it's not helping but according to the docs it is, so while I'm TTC I will continue taking it, but once I'm done or moved on to adoption I will stop the met. Hope things go better with you taking it. The doc who first prescribed met for me said it takes at least 6 months for it to get into your system real well, maybe this is the case for you.

I agree I dont know. I switched Drs bc I had to move to another state and the Dr knew nothing about PCOS and wouldnt let me go above 1000mg of Met so I got up to 1500 on my own and thats when some weight loss came in effect. Trying to get up to 2000 now and see if there is any change

It isn't magic for everyone, but it can be a slow-moving miracle..I can vouch. It was almost ~ 9 mos on met before I saw a significant ease of my symptoms and it wasn't until I started eating to control my insulin after a year on the drug that things REALLY got moving (Periods back regularly, acne improvmenent, able to lose weight etc).
I urge you to make sure you're eating to control your insulin..it is a huge benefit to women on met. We can actually COUNTER-ACT the drug with a bad diet and it was KEY for me to get committed to that.
Hope it helps!

Ok I have to revise that statement because the very evening after I wrote this I started af on my own for the first time without taking provera. So the 2500mg is actually doing something for me. Now to see if it's actually making me ovulate. But for me this is a tremendous breakthrough. Hope you have one to soon.

I am currently on 750 mg and will be upping to 1000 next week. I don't notice anything different so far. Considering how sick I feel when I up it, I sure hope it's worth it.
