Default Does Retin A work for Acne scars or just Acne?

Hello Cysters,

Does Retin A work for acne or also the redness from acne scars? I don't have the deep scaring- but I have a ton of red spots all over my checks from acne. The acne has cleared up thanks to Borage oil, B6, Provex- Grapeseed extract from Melaleuca- and Biotin. I use proactiv also- I want the scarring to get better but now acne is starting to come from the Retin A- I know that is normal as it starts to exfoliate the skin. However, I don't need an acne treatment- I need something to clear up the scarring. What is your experience with Retin A? Has it helped with scarring?

Thanks,

Karen

Retin A helps with acne, but works really well with blackheads. It will not help with scarring. Be careful when using Rentin A, it is very drying. I use it once a week due to peeling. There are prescription medicines for scarring, however they tend to be very expensive. If you have a dermatologist ask for some samples and see if they help. Also you can try an over the counter product called Mederma. It works very well on new scars and will even work on old scars. Mederma runs about $14.00 a tube.

I use Retin A once a day and I could use it more than that but it's not recommended..that's how oily my skin is!! It has helped my scars to fade...but I think it depends on if your skin is as oily as mine...
