Does This Sound Like PCOS? I've strongly suspected I have PCOS for the last 4 years. I never had trouble with my periods growing up. It wasn't until 4 years ago that my periods stopped. After several months the dr told me to lose weight. Dh and I were trying to get pg. I had an u/s and found one cyst and blood test showed high prolactin levels. A nurse friend told us to take one month of the pill and that should fix things. It worked and I got a very heavy af and got pg that cycle. I thought the problem was fixed. Nope! After our ds was born, I only had spotting each month with no real period. I developed tons of skin tags, facial hair and I couldn't lose the weight. I eventually went on a lo carb diet, started exercising and took 1500mg Metformin. After 5 months, I was losing weight, my periods returned and I got pg a few months later. After our dd was born, my periods have been very irregular with weeks of spotting each month. So far this cycle has lasted 49 days and I've been spotting/light bleeding for almost 4 weeks. I've been doing a low calorie/low fat diet this time with no Metformin and I can't move the weight to save my life. My blood sugar levels are fine (dh is diabetic so I can check it) but he thinks I have severe insulin resistance. I was hoping I wouldn't need medication again but now I'm not so sure. I'm having trouble finding a dr here to properly diagnose this. I can tell them what I think I have and why and they'll write me the prescription I ask for (Metformin) but they don't know enough about it to run the appropriate tests and diagnose. I admit that I've learned most of this from research online. My dh and I are very blessed and lucky to have 2 children but we're not trying to get pg anymore. I just don't want to bleed for weeks at a time. I also don't want to be fat forever (100lb+ overweight). I no longer have any cysts so I don't know if that means I don't have PCOS but so many other things seem to fit.
Sorry this is so long. I would appreciate any opinions and suggestions. I look forward to learning a lot from this board.
