Default Does thinning hair ever come back or facial hair go away with losing weight?

I haven't been to the doctor but I know I have this. I've been very overweight all my life Im 28 now almost 29 and I have thinning hair and some facial hair on my neck. I used to have unbelievably thick hair and noticed it thinning at the age of 16. It's now very thin. Just wondering if losing weight will make those symptoms reverse does anyone know? Will my hair come back and the facial hair go away?

This is something I am wondering too, especially if it will help me to regrow some hair.

I think I've had PCOS since puberty, but I wasn't officially diagnosed until I was in college and didn't start actively treating my symptoms until now. (I'm now 24.)

From my personal experience with weight loss & dealing with PCOS, weight loss can only help relieve your hair loss and hirsutism. I don't think it can have a noticable effect on its own. I've been overweight my whole life until recently, but I was never obese. I lost 30 lbs in the past 2-3 years. Ironically, my hair loss became noticable/bothersome last Sept when I was at least 25 lbs lighter than I was at any other time in my life.

Losing weight did not help one bit with decreasing my hirsutism. The only difference I noticed was that my periods were becoming more regular. That's it nothing else.

When my hair loss became unbearable, I had no choice left but to seek medical help. I, too, had had very thick hair my whole life. I had never once thought that my hair would one day be thinning.

Now I'm on Yaz, Spiro, Metformin, & Finasteride. I've been on this stuff for about 6 months now. I hate taking pills everday, but I have no choice left.

My hirsutism is much much better. My face which was full of hair, now has very little hair, the hair on my chest is almost gone. I hope I notice a difference with my leg hair and arm hair as well. There people on this website that have testified to this as well.

My hair loss has definitely decreased compared to what is was before, but no regrowth yet. My endo said that there will be regrowth in 9-12 months. I'm really holding on tight because I dont' know what else to do.

I pray everyday that my hair would come back. I know it will never be as thick as it was before, but I just don't want my scalp showing after I wash my hair. I'm goign to the salon to get my hair cut and styled for a party on Sunday and I'm petrified about someone announcing my hair loss to everyone.

Please wish me luck. I hope my post has helped you in some way. Best of luck. I will definitely post back if I get regrowth.

BTW, there is a separate forum for thinning hair and excess hair. Please go take a look, you'll find a lot of info.
