Question Does waxing work?

I'm 18 and I've never used wax before. I've tried that sally hansen crap over the counter which wouldnt even stick it was like pancake syrup.
I get hair on neck, chin, arms, feet, back and stomach, and chest.
It's not very hairy but its still there and I shave but its back fairly soon after.

I'm looking for a cheap easy method nothing like laser treatment

Smile My Waxing Secret

To remove the hair from my chin, neck area and upper lip, I use a home waxing kit called the Poetic waxing kit. It's expensive, but it should last you at least a few months with regular use. It's a strip waxing kit, meaning no cloth or paper strips to irritate the skin - the wax forms it's own strip and you put peel off the piece you applied. It's very gentle on my VERY sensitive skin and has never burned me or made me bleed.

Poetic Waxing Kit

After using the kit I apply Tend-Skin, which is like an aftershave and keeps the ingrown hairs and red bumps from forming. It's very exfoliating and can sting but it works.

Tend Skin

Lastly, I use regular old grocery store Cortizone-10 to soothe my skin and prevent redness and rashes.

All of the above works great on the lower tummy and bikini line too.

Waxing works but the hair does grow back after a certain amount of time. I get my eyebrows/lip waxed and I go about once a month. In between, if there are stray hairs, I pluck (brow). However, it can get expensive if you are getting it done professionally. I have my salon's price list in front of me (just made an appointment for myself) and here are the prices for your list:

neck $10
chin $8
arms (half) $20, (full) $25
feet (not listed)
back $30
stomach/chest $20

I actually use the Gigi professional waxpot from Sally Beauty Supply:http://www.sallybeauty.com/on/demand...pid=SBS-448505
I think you can order it online. You will also need buy a little wax container for it and you need to use the muslin cloth strips with it as well. A bit of an investment at first but mine has paid for itself over and over again. You may want to consider getting an epilator for your legs too. You don't have to grow the hair out quite so long and after a few months of regular use I could actually shave my legs in the morning and be stubble free the rest of the day! Other than laser on my face it's been the best hair removal investment I've ever made. It's painful, but I'll bear just about any kind of pain in the name of hair removal...

Ditto. No mess and easy to touch up the hairy patches in the mornings.

But it's not like dark hair in the follicle under the skin... I have that on my legs, and this looks different. It's more like slightly reddish spots that are darker than the rest of my skin. I fear that I may be out of luck because I just have large follicles most places where hair grows, but it's super obvious on my fingers. I don't know what to do about it!!!

If waxing doesn't remove the pores, will laser treatment do it? I could probably afford a few sessions of laser just on my fingers (only the first portion grows hair.)
IMO it would. I always used to get called "chicken legs" in high school and it's not because my legs were skinny! It was because even when I shaved the follicles were so visible that my legs had the appearance of raw chicken skin. You know, like all those little spots where the feathers had been plucked. It was awful! After regular epilating & waxing it has gotten much better over the years. I think laser would be even better.

It does work. I personally like the Surgi-Wax Brazillian for coarse hair. It doesn't require the fabric strips to pull it off. I've also heard good things about the Gigi line, but never tried it.

I also have a braun silk epil epilator. I love it! It's fantastic for body hair, but probably way too much for your face and neck.

Be sure to start a good skin care regimen with regular exfoliating. It helps keep the ingrowns away.

Default Hmm.

I don't know WHERE in the world it was that I read something about plucking/waxing is not good for people with PCOS because of something it does to the hormone levels.. or something like that.. that makes hair grow more. I would have to concur with that, from my own experience, but honestly, I can only vouch for myself, especially considering that I can't find that darn article! GR!

I'd die without my waxing and electrolysis.
I only wax my upper lip in an emergency like on hols and always bring tweezers, but have been having everything waxed for 12 yrs and will never shave again, except underarms for some odd reason I can't bear the pain/sensation of underarm wax, plus its normal for hair to grow there and very easy to shave.
I find with leg/bikini waxing eventhough hair does grow back but each time the hair gets softer so I dont get stubble anymore, even when I'm due a wax it feels ok but looks bad obviously. Sorry I'm going on a bit, but if u can afford it get waxing done by a professional x

I also agree that if you wax regularly the hair grows back thinner, softer, and in my experience, lighter in color. I waxed my lower tummy so many times the hair completely stopped growing there. The only issue I really have is with my bikini line, because after a bikini wax it is practically a full time job to keep a full blown rash from breaking out - I use a loofah in the shower and Tend-Skin and Cortaid, and I have to do that for probably a full week after the week to keep the skin clear.

I would try and go to a salon the first time and they might be able to get the hair off better than if you are trying to do it yourself the first time. Might even learn the techniques they use and be able to do it yourself. I can't say wax has worked for my facial hair because it's too thick but I have found the best wax are the ones that don't require a fabric strip to pull it off. I can use this on my legs and arms and I find it's way easier to use.
