I was just wondering how many cysters out there had moms with pcos? What about sisters, aunts, grandmothers, ect...? I am trying to convince my mom to go get tested and she doesnt think any of the symptoms she has are related to each other. Maybe you girls can convince her...
My mom shows some of the signs but wont hear of it not even about pcos for that matter
My sister has it, she was tested after me because she was doing everything i was i let her read the signs and sure enuff she has it shes 12 yrs younger than me also i don't know about my aunts but i think 2 of my cousins has it also
I beleive my mom has PCOS also as she has had all the same problems that I'm having now..including TTC. She was never diagnosed with it though. As women get older though, I've heard that pcos symptoms get less and less so even if your moms went and get tested, there's probably a good chance that they would not be diagnosed at their age. At least that's what I think based on what I've learned about PCOS.

Nope, not my mom. My mother, however, thinks my aunt on my father's side had it and one of my aunts on my mom's side had premature ovarian failure (I am *very* glad I have PCOS when given a choice between the two). My little sister either does not have it or does not have it yet.
no, sure didn't, but my mom is an ovarian cancer survivor, so i think that gynecological problems run in my family. i just pray my sister doesn't have any problems. she is 21 now, and is in good shape. i also just pray that my future daughter(s) never have to experience this.
my mom doesn't but i think my sister does show some symptoms of it but we are having a hard time convincing her to go get tested because when i got tested i so so many blood tests and she hates needles so we are slowly working on her

My mom has not been officially diagnosed, but as she has learned more about PCOS, she feels she probably has had it, and just didn't know it. She's also commented that she feels really bad, because she figures she passed it on to me, but also because she didn't recognize it when I was younger. At that time, no one recognized it, though, so I've tried to reassure her that it wasn't her fault. The doctors were just as much at fault. I would go in every couple months were horrible pain in my right ovary area, and all I was told was "oh, you have an ovarian cyst. Just take ibuprofen to help with the inflammation, and it will go away." Yeah right!!!

Diagnosis: Don't remember when, but maybe 1999...but sure remember symptoms much longer ago!! Medications: Metformin 1000 mg bid, spironolactone 100 mg bid, Yasmin, Prozac 40 mg a day.
I'm not sure about if my mom does or not. I don't think so. But I think I have a great-aunt who does. She showed all the signs. Other than that I think I'm the only one. No one on either side of my family has any of the problems I do or show signs of PCOS. My great aunt was unable to have kids, and she adopted her 2. All the other women on both sides of my family are fertile as can be.

My mom doesn't. She has always had beautiful skin and beautiful hair. However, if my dad was a woman I bet he would have it. My dad has male pattern baldness. Every male in his family has that. I read a study that in a lot of families where there is male pattern baldness some women can have pcos. It is really sad because my male cousins have been pretty much bald in their eary twenties. It will be interesting to see if any of us who have sons will they have that baldness when they grow up. I have a cousin on my dads side who is over 40 and has never had kids. She shows some signs of pcos, I have never asked her though because I don't see her much, she lives in Mexico. I was speaking with an aunt once and she told me that one of our great grandmothers use to have tons of facial hair.

Thank you ladies so much for answering my thread! I am just so worried since she is obese and is at risk for diabetes and heart disease and with pcos and all the hormonal imbalances it puts her at an even higher risk. And we have a HORRIBLE family history with all of the above. She has every symptom except fertility problems (thanks alot mom for not passing on the one gene that I really want! lol) And she thinks since she has always had regular af that it must not be pcos. Nevemind the fact that she shaves her face every morning, gains weight around the middle, suffers from depression, and has the most painful periods on the planet. My sister has been on bcp's since she was 13 - she's 17 now - and I am worried that its gonna make things worse if she has pcos. She has all the same problems that I did at her age and I just want everyone to get tested!
My mom sounds just like yours! No problem TTC but MANY other symptoms. I really need to encourage her to get checked but I am not sure if she will or not. My sister has some of the symptoms too and I have mentioned that she should get checked but because she has absolutely NO fertilitly problems she says she doesn't need to be tested. As for my aunts, I wouldn't be surprised if both of my mom's sisters have PCOS and just don't know it.
I think there is a chance my mom got pcos but never been tested for it. I am almost 100% postive my aunt got it though and one of my cousins. I wish i knew how to bring up the topic to them to get tested.
