Smile Doghouse Divas Marching into March - All Welcome!!

Hi Ladies!

Just thought I'd start a new thread for us. It's been quiet at the Doghouse this week. What's going on for you all?

I've had a busy week. Caught up with some friends from out west, spent lots of b'day gift vouchers and won a beautiful Angel shaped rock salt lamp as a lucky door prize of a new store opening to name but a few happenings.... So I've had a good week.

I've been asked to be a guest speaker for International Women's Day at the end of next week. So I'll be busy writing that presentation this week.

We've got a busy weekend happening. Lach has two b'day parties and I'm planning on getting to Bookfest this morning.

It's turned very cold here overnight. It's crazy weather.

Hope you are all happy and well and have some great things planned for the weekend. Take Care .

Thanks Amy! Oh it has been a busy week.

Lots of work and not a whole lot of sleep around here, mixed with two sick children and lingering headaches all round from 'the headache virus' that we managed to get. I've had headaches for 2.5 weeks now, which is getting a little old. I've been drinking some cleansing tea with dandelion root, licorice root, nettles, rosebuds etc etc to try and get my immune system up so I don't get the one that the kids have (a typical snotty, feverish head cold). I went and helped at the school yesterday - in the morning with swimming and the arvo for art. I ended up helping the other year one class too cause they didn't have any parent helpers in the pool so it was one p.e. teacher and 28 (ish) year ones in a pool. Yeah, not good, but it was better with me there. Apparently they normally get about 6 helpers and this year is a little awkward without anyone. At least there was one other mum who didn't get in but could help the kids dress this week. I tell you, I'm glad my kid can swim already. Swimming at school is NOT the way to learn to swim. There's only so much you can do with a 1/2 hour lesson and one teacher.

Art was fun. I took in a huge box of collage materials that I collected around the yard and they all did collages with them. They're learning about the world around them this term so that fitted well. They also drew an eye. It's interesting seeing how the different children see things. It really is enjoyable working with them. There's one boy who keeps taking off during the lessons. Apparently one day he got to the front gate and walked out it on his way home before someone spotted him and brought him back. Such a nightmare - glad he's not my boy. Bit concerning.

Anyway I'd better go and see what the boy is doing. Have a great Saturday everyone!

Quick off the mark today Amy, however you could have put the link to this month in the post before closing the thread.
Don't ask about my week, its been OK but has turned foul over the last couple of days - esp today!

I had to drag myself out of bed early because we had a diabetic cat boarding, then we had a tap flood the kitchen @ wk, so I was frantically calling plumbers to come fix it. Then I get a rude comment about doing my job from a new staff member. come home & find people in foul moods - so of course we all grump @ each other. Top it off I still have to go back to work tonight to feed all the cats & its my turn to work Sunday.

worse still is the newest staff member is leaving in abt 2 weeks & I was planning to have time off for graduation & some other things

sudden cold snap here too and I realised that all of DH's size 0 clothes were for summer but his size 1 winter stuff is still an inch too long in the legs. Why does noone make different length pants for kids? Seriously, he's a 0 all over except his legs so I either leave his ankles hanging out of his pants or roll his legs up a good 5cm. okay, rant over

starting to plan for a first birthday party...any ideas ladies? I have absolutely no idea what to do!

Yeah, I guess I could have. Don't know why I didn't think of that while typing a speech, organising breakfast for 2 kids and wading through baskets of folding this morning. Is it really that big a deal?!?! Sorry you've had to click your mouse twice instead of once.

No I just thought about I've heard cysters saying that they loose track of time & then can't find the new months thread because its buried in a mountain of other posts. Often they go back to the old thread & link via there.

I didn't mean to sound cranky, sorry bad day!

Hi Everyone,

just checking in before i hit the sack, have to get up early for work again in the morning, so can't stay long...

Hey Deb, sounds like you had fun helping out at school the other day! I think the headache Alyssa had was a virus afterall too... Dylan come down with it too a few days later. And our friends that we holidayed with, their kids also had "sore heads" a few days later... Lucky they were only 24hr things, cause the poor kids were suffering.

Congrats Amy on your guess speaker role!! Good luck with the presentation preps! I'm sure you'll do a great job!

Kirsten - Thats funny that your bubby has short little legs!! Makes it hard though hey! So your after First Birthday suggestions, for both my kids, I held thier 1st birthday party at home. Entertainment wise, it all depends on how old the kids are that you are inviting. The other kids at ours were either toddlers or around the same age, and we got a "party Pack" from the local toy libarary. They are a great idea, and pretty cheap, and enough to keep little ones happy in the back yard.

I know what I can tell you guys! I'm so proud of Dylan, on Friday at his swimming lesson, he swam by himself (under the water) for the first time - he was grinning from ear to ear too! His teacher just looked at me and said - he's doing this like he's always been able to, just didn't want to!

So thats my brag for tonight, I'm off to bed!
love yas

Thanks for the new thread Amy! Congratulations on your guest speaker roll! That's awesome. Where is it? What other speakers will be there? I'm so happy (nervous, excited) for you. Maybe this will get some workshops going too!? Sounds like you've been run off your feet.

Deb, no wonder you have a headache - 20 something year ones in a pool with one other adult! AAGGGHHHH! That sounds a little scarey to me. Hope you can get that virus out of your household soon. The other day Mackenzie was looking at photos (he is ALWAYS looking at photos/videos) and the photos of him and Jenna playing on that car or something at Carindale when we had a SC lunch came up. Mackenzie said Oh mummy, I really do like that little girl, what was her name, when can we see her again? When I said Jenna, he said, Oh year, I did like that girl, she was lovely and my friend. It was very cute.

Jeanette, sounds like you've had a crap time, hope it gets better soon too.

Kirsten, I know what you mean with kids clothes. I found that I would go through stuff and think, there is no way that is going to fit DS for ages, and shove it up the back of the drawer, and the next time I see it DS has way grown out of it. When they are that little, things don't fit 'properly' for very long. As for first b'day parties, with Mackenzie (first ds) we went to a park and had some family and friends. I made the big number 1 out of the WW kids birthday cake book and for Campbell (second ds) we had the party at home with family and friends. I made the pirate ship out of the ww book (only I made it a lovely light blue, not black) made heaps of sea creatures and stuck them all over our walls - had lots of green and blue balloons, cups lollies, drinks, cakes....it was a bit cute. Both parties were more for us though, the kids really had no idea. Had a bit of cake and were ready for bed!

Nic, YAY for Dylan! What a proud mummy you must be! Glad that virus was only a 24hour thing. It is bad enough as an adult having a headache, but it is so hard for kids. Damn things! And I think it was you asking about our diet? We are doing the celebrity slim diet shake thing. Dh has lost around 14kg, so he his very happy with himself.

Jade, you've been a busy girl too. I was wondering when your next transfer was, keeping everything crossed for you.x How has your new business been going?

Well, I guess I've been busy, but more than that, I have been angry and disgusted. My sh!thole of a job just gets worse every day I go there. On Wednesday I got there at 9am to start work and three people had been sacked before I even got there! Then another girl the next day. The HR lady was up from Melbourne having half hour meetings with everyone trying to put a positive spin on it and I felt like punching her in the head - stupid mole! When it was my turn for our little chat, I was shaking and all red. (tears were earlier that day with the rest of the staff). I walked in there and said I have nothing to say to you, so just get me to sign what I have to sign so I can leave. She kept trying to butter me up and get me to talk about it and I just kept saying you are so the last person I would talk to about how I feel, so stop asking me please. She said that they need everyones support for all the new 'changes' that are happening so I said, well you don't have mine! While I work here, I'll give nothing but 110%, because that's what I do, but I intend to leave as soon as I can find another job and when I walk out that door I will not look back. I kind of think she got the message by the time I left. I did feel much better though after 'not' talking to her.

On a happier note, Rohan and I went up to Brissy last night to the wharf in Hamilton to my cousins 40th birthday. We had the best time. I had lots of champagne and yummy food and got to see some cousins who I never get to see. It was a really nice evening. I'm not going to look at the scales for a couple of days though

Ok, time for housework - woo hoo! Going to get as much as I can done and then have a sleep when my boys do....fingers crossed.

How about a spit roast today ladies. The weather has turned cool up here too. A spit roast with lots of lovely roast vegies and gravy. Enjoy!

(((Donna)))) I'm so sorry work is so bloody awful for you right now. Sounds like it is the absolute pits. Can I just say....GOOD ON YOU for being true to yourself and not giving in to their scare tactics!!!! WOOHOO!!!! You are very brave....it is people like you who really make a difference. I hope the perfect job appears for you soon and you can leave all of this mess behind you. You deserve soooooooooo much better.
I'm so glad you had a good time at the Wharf. What a way to blow off some steam - a few champers are always good for that . Do I know your cousin who turned 40? I seem to know a few of them!

Nic - I'm so pleased it was just a virus for Lyssy. At least you know those nasty headaches aren't going to return. YAYYYYYYYYYYYY for Dylan!!!!! It's so cool when they realise they can do something......what a proud moment for you (and the rest of us ).

Ugh - Deb, I'm sorry to hear the kids are sick. Headaches are just so painful....it makes it difficult to function in any other way when your head is pounding. I hope they both feel better soon. You had a busy week last week! I hope you're getting some rest over the weekend.

Kirsten - we STILL have issues with Soph's short legs...she seems to have a long body and shortie legs...so I can relate to your issue. Enjoy your little man's 1st b'day!!! How exciting. I don't really have any ideas - I'm not very creative. We had a big party for Lach's 1st b'day - it was TOO big - too many people. I would have had something more low key if I had have realised in advance how much work it would be LOL! So, don't stress yourself out. Do something simple and ENJOY your little man's big day : ).

Well, I'm on the housework trail today too. Better keep going with it. Our neighbours are coming over for dinner tonight. I'm cooking a roast lamb : ). Yummo. It's just the right weather for it too.

Hey Donna - anymore Tupperware parties coming up??
