Default Doing Laser forever!!!

Hey I have been going for laser treatments on my chin for the past 5 years once a month. I am also on BCP and while there is a difference it is far from over and I still need to shave once a day MAYBE once every day and a half. I keep reading about 6-8 sessions and I wondering what is wrong?? I have red hair but I am using a different laser that is supposed to make a difference in light hair. What have your experiences been?

I am also in NYC and looking for a new dermatologist for laser if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

Are you having your hormone balance monitored? Especially your level of free testosterone. If you don't get your hormone levels into the sort of range that's normal for females the male-type beard growth is likely to continue.

Once beard growth gets established it can be very persistent. Remember that even males who are castrated as adults still continue to have beard growth, albeit at a slower rate.

It sounds like something's up with the laser center you're visiting.

Most places won't see you every month, the typical wait is every 6 weeks, and yes, 6-8 sessions is the average.

I've heard 6-8 sessions is average, for a person without PCOS. I paid for 6 sessions and could continue to go for up to 2 years after the last one if I wasn't satisfied. I went in every 4-6 weeks. I continued for a long time after my initial 6, but finally stopped as my schedule no longer allowed for it. I still shave once a day too. I went to American Laser and have blond hair, but dark black in the areas that were being treated.
Hope this helps.

Sarah2,
I can kind of relate. I went once a month to laser for a year, and saw absolutely no progress. I ended up seeing an electrologist for about 1.5 years for once a week, and saw immediate success. Eventually, I had to give it up for about three years for financial reasons... but I'm back, and I used to have to shave the left side of my neck daily. I've seen a new electrologist every two weeks now, I've done 6 sessions for one hour, and she removes about 100 hairs between my neck and stomach. After these six sessions, I can already go a week without having any regrowth. The worst part is the second week having to grow them out. My husband and best friend swear up and down they can't see the regrowth during the second week, but it is so worth it. Also, my electrologist let me pay for 20 sessions in cash, 60 minutes each, which comes out to $40 an hour, which is very inexpensive compared to other electrologists. You should have some negotiating power when shopping, electrology and laser treatments are "extras" in an economy like today's and providers know that your dollar is important. Good luck!
