What made you decide if you were going domestic or international?
For us we wanted to adopt children from our local area... nationality doesnt matter. We just feel that there are so many children right in our area that need a home we didnt need to go international.
Now your turn, you can make it simple and sweet like I did... or you can get more indepth.
I would go domestic if it were that easy in our area....we are on the "list" for our local Childrens Aid Society and have been for a few years now with not so much as a bite...we are currently on hold to *complete* our 2nd adoption internationally...for us time & age were a giant factor in waiting 10 years for a child from CAS (local)...
Ya ya there are alot of kids here who need our help here its just to bad the system is so screwed up they are allowed to keep them in foster care forever if they feel like it just to make an extra buck or 7 even thought the birth parents terminated their rights eons ago...sure it doesnt happen with every child ... but enough to make my blood boil...obviously.. !
AAGGGHHH this just turned into a Rant that I am going to post anyways...

International because it's where my heart led me. I just *knew* China is where my babies are. Something we prayed on and wished for just came true.
We thought about fostering but that wasn't in the cards for us. I have lots of reasons we didn't think about private or domestic but won't go into that here. I'll keep this a happy post!

We went the foster to adopt route. We prayed long and hard on it. We also talked with our families and everyone agreed to back us whatever we decided to do.
Believe me a few times along the journey we thought about going international because of all the problems we have had here but the wait was worth it.

dna that is sad that the 'system' doesnt try harder to get children placed. I never understood why they keep children so long before adopting...
Thank you ladies that expressed the international adoption... Lisa 67 I can understand what you're saying I guess my heart just led me domestic instead of international....
In my opinion its amazing how we all have a similar goal but there are so many paths that can be taken
It is amazing...I do apologize for not keeping this thread light it just irks me...I am so happy when people succeed in adopting domestically I shouldnt have such a negative attitude towards it

Please vent! Really that is what we are here for to hear you venting stories and your happy stories... This is a sensative subject I didnt expect the thread to stay simple, by any means!
Like others, I was drawn to international adoption right away, though in the end our choice came down to three things...our desire to adopt a young child rather than an older one, our desire not to have to "compete" for a baby, and most of all where our hearts really lay, which was with China adoption.
I think we all choose the right paths for ourselves, whatever the reasons.

I was drawn internationally, but ended up doing a failed/international/domestic adoption.. If you want to know what that is PM me. Most of the time they are pretty smooth adoptions and very very low cost..
