I have been thinking that maybe my husband and I could donate a much needed item to a needy family in honor of our baby on our edd. My husband thinks it is a weird thought, but I just want to do something to honor our baby. I think it will make it a little easier to get thru if I know that something good came on that day. If any of you have done this I would like to hear your stories and know how you came to decide what to donate or who to donate it to.
I have been donating on my baby's birthdays, three so far, and the timing is great for that kind of thing. An organization collects for the needy to provide Christmas gifts and meals during the weeks including our special day, November 28th. So I buy gifts I might have given my daughter for that birthday, age appropriate, and drop them off for some living child to enjoy. It helps me so much!! I think you are feeling that mothering instinct that needs some sense of completion, and I totally identify! Please go through with it, and your DH might actually like it a lot once it happens. When is your EDD? If it is during a time when blankets and coats are being collected, that would be a good outlet. Women's shelters and other full time organizations are always taking things for babies and little ones, too. I hope you find just the right place so that you feel good about it. This process has really helped my mommy heart. And on our original EDD we planted a sugar maple which has grown into a beautiful little tree.

I donated 6 fleece tie blankets I made to the pediatric floor at the local hospital on Jan 31 2007. The day my baby would of been born from my ectopic pregnancy. Not only did I feel I was giving a great tribute to my angel, by buying the fabric, cutting the material and making all the ties, it helped me focus my anxiety to a good cause.
I had an ectopic pregnancy after a IVF cycle. Sometimes I wonder if there is something I could also do to help women who are having fertility treatments done.
We don't donate on their duedates, but every christmas we adopt an angel tree child that would be the age of our angels and buy for him/her. It makes us feel so good that we are providing a Christmas for a child that wouldn't otherwise have one. Plus we are buying what we would be if our babies had made it.
I am so sorry for your loss. I did not make donations on due date, but I did make donations to the hospital. I knit and crocheted some baby blankets and made tags for them that said "Angel Blanket" and I donated them to the hospital that I delivered at with instruction that they be given to a family who had suffered a loss (miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death...)
I have not done that for a while because I don't have the time to make the blankets, and crocheting that much gives me serious flare ups of tendonitis. But I love your idea of making a donation on the due date. Don't worry about what anyone else says if it is going to make you feel better.
I look forward to hearing what you do.
Kath

I think we figured out what we are going to do. My best friend is due very close to what my due date would have been and she doesn't have alot of money to buy things so we are going to get her something that she really needs and then we are going to make up some midwife kits that our church is collecting so that we can send them overseas to 3rd world countries so that more women have safer births. I have prayed about this and feel this is what we need to do. Thanks all for your wonderful ideas.

I am planning to knit little blankets and hats for the late miscarriage and premature labor babies who are too small for the premie clothes. Mason was wrapped in a blanket that someone had knitted and donated and I will always treasure it.
My MIL also sews clothing for the premies and donates them. The nurses and families really do appreciate it.
