Hi guys, Thanks for all the congratulations! Sorry it has taken me so long to post these pictures, but I have been a tad busy and haven't had a chance to get on the net. Campbell is a wonderful baby, and is allot like Mackenzie was as a little'un. He pretty much eats, sleeps, eats, poohs, eats and wees. He is delightful. Mackenzie just adores him. His face lights up every time he sees him and he gives him great big open mouth sloppy kisses and lots and lots of hugs. Not sure how long it will last, but for now it is beautiful. A couple of nights after we got home from hospital, Mackenzie got Campbell out of his rocker and had him on the floor. The first of many mishaps no doubt!
My labour/birth was much the same as Mackenzie's only a bit quicker. I went into labour at about 7am and a couple of hours later phoned Rohan to come home from work. By the time we got to the hospital, I had my seatbelt off and was just about climing through the window, it was about midday. I had to stop about five times from the front doors to the delivery suite for contractions. The midwife asked me if I could give a urine sample and I thought I could. I hovered over the toilet and my waters broke. They had meconium in them which wasn't a very nice surprise. The put the monitor on my tummy and Campbell wasn't stressed at all, so they weren't too concerned. I was about 7cm dialated. I was sucking on gas pretty much straight away, and not long after had an epidural. They only just managed to get the epidural into me as my contractions were on top of each other and I was having a hard time staying still. Never the less, he managed to get the needle in, and I was VERY grateful. Because I had the epidural, they had to put a catheter in and there was blood in my urine, which means that Campbell was head butting my bladder, another not so good sign. A couple of hours later I was fully dialated, but Campbell was facing the wrong way. They gave me another hour or so to see if he would turn, but it wasn't to be, so they decided to do an emergency ceasarean. I was glad I went into labour naturally though, and gave it my best shot.
Campbell spent most of the first twenty hours or so in the special care nursery (much like Mackenzie) because I had gestational diabetes (diet controlled), they couldn't get Campbell's blood sugar levels up. He ended up with a tube down his nose and they were giving him top up formula feeds after I would feed him. Because I had had a c-section, I couldn't get up and go and see him, so I had a sleepless night wondering how my baby was. I got up about 11am the next morning, and not long after that, went and got him myself.
Everything since then has been wonderful and I feel totally blessed to have two beautiful boys. Life's good!
Thanks again for all the congratulations.
Donna, mummy of two angels!
