I have had the symptoms of the facial hair and irregular periods since i was like 14. Could this mean that i have had PCOS since i was 14? I just thought about it and thought with the symptoms i would have to have had it.

I had it when I was seven...they saw the cysts on my ovaries when they were doing and appendectomy and did a biopsy then. I didn't really show any typical symptoms until my mid-late teens, and then, just weight and slightly irregular periods.

Congrats on your daughter.

Congrats on your beautiful baby As for me I think I have had the symptoms of pcos since puberty, maybe even before. I just knew that something was a bit off, you know what I mean? AF was never regular for me, I had very bad acne, round middle and skin tags. I do believe they can get better though. Over the last year as I have improved my health my symptoms have improved dramaticly. Hope that helps.

There have been some theories that say we actually inherit PCOS. (I've done my research) The only reason it doesn't get diagnosed until later in life is:
1. Our hormones don't change until puberty.
2. There isn't enough awareness of PCOS, and its symptoms. (which there should be)
and if you are diagnosed earlier in life, like Starmaiden, it's most likely because the Dr noticed something was off.
I myself knew something was up, then I had to have a breast exam done and my Dr noticed the hair around the nipples and mentioned PCOS to me. I thought nothing of it and then one day found the pad of paper and looked stuff up and found that I had other symptoms too. But that was only because my Dr noticed something and told me about it... and the rest is history!
the main problem is not enough public knowledge about PCOS |

I never really had any medical problems when I was younger then one day when I went to the OBGYN just for a checkup, the doctor noticed signs of PCOS and the rest is history.

I never had trouble with my period until just this last couple of months when it was a week or so late. I think I've always had some of the other symptoms but never knew they were connected until I was just diagnosed. I guess I just never realized anything was really wrong until then when they found a larger cyst on my ovaries. I wondered if it was the fact although being overweight I wasn't obese, but now I have gained a lot more weight and maybe that triggered something so I am seeing more symptoms now? But what everyone said seems to answer my question. (I think my oldest sister has PCOS too.) |
