Question Doppler... can't always find heartbeat

I am about 11 1/2 weeks pregnant and bought a Doppler. Sometimes I can find the heartbeat and then other times I can only find mine. It is driving me whacko. I haven't heard it in 2 days and now I am worried. Is this normal at this early stage? I am also about 50 lbs. fluffier than I should be, pre-pregnancy.

Baby is little and all over the place right now. What always worked for us was to stick to just above the pubic bone. Rather than move the wand all over a lot, hold it in just one spot and tilt it slightly in different directions. Sometimes the slightest move does it. Moving all over the place just gets you frantic and confused. Once you hear it in one direction you can move the wand very slowly that direction to hear it better. Hope that makes sense. It usually did the trick for us. Dh was wonderful at it. I would start to flip out!

The nurse at my OB's office was trying to find the h/b with the doppler at my 11w 4d appointment. She searched for over 15 min. and couldn't find it. So we were sent into the u/s room. We sat nervously waiting for another 15-20 min. until my dr. could do the u/s. Baby was fine!

I'd say it's pretty normal to not be able to hear the h/b that early with the doppler.

Quite honestly I told my husband to hide it today and put it away somewhere because it consumes me with too much worry and anxiety. I don't think we will use it again until baby is bigger and easier to find.

Most midwifes can't find the heartbeat themselves, until 12-14 weeks, so i think you could be just looking way too early.

I'm around 60 pounds over weight but I'm fairlly tall. I always found hers around my pubic bone... try that.

That's how I experienced it. I received the doppler at about 13 weeks and I wasn't able to find the heartbeat regularly until 15-16 weeks. Give it time

I found my babys HB at 8 weeks and could always get it straight away but at the Dr yesterday they had a hard time finding it, he/she was just a little lower down that usual. As soon as I got home I used my doppler and got it straight away again. Just remember that your uterus is going to start moving up very soon so dont panic if you dont find it. I think I will tell DH to hide mines, im addicted to it

I found it right above my pubic bone before, but the last 2 days.... nothing. I could only pick up mine. Again, it is hidden for the next several weeks because it drives me crazy.
