i was at the doc yesterday and got prescribed 1500mg per day, divided in three, i start with 500mg a day for 2 days then 1000mg for 2 days then up to 1500mg.. i'm not sure whats up with this, everyone seems to have been prescribed a lot less at the beginning, this is my first time taking any drugs for pcos, btw, i LOVE my doctor! he's like the best doctor ever, he treated me like an adult, was really nice, and knew what he was talking about!!! (the first doctor ever!)

i'm sure she'll increase at your next appointment, some doctors like to be more certain of the doseages, cause the side effects are hard to deal with sometimes, so she probably doesn't want to give you too much too soon... i'm feeling very sick right now, and i'm still only on my second day of 1 tablet, i don't even want to think about when i'm up to three a day...

Dosage varies depending on the severity of symptoms and how tough your hormones are to move...so it's really trial and error to see what will work for you individually. The minimum effective dose (according to medical literature) is 1500 mg, but ladies with milder symptoms can often do fine on less.
So talk to your Dr at your next appt and be glad he's upping you slowly...I suffered big time with seide effects becuase my Dr started me on 1500 mg all at once.

Doses vary from person to person so there isn't a real set dosage from one person to the next. Right now I'm on 500 mg 2 x per day so = 1000 mg per day.

im only on 1000 mg and it brought my hormones back to normal. no period yet but no extra testosterone(sp) lurking around. hah hah!

The first appointment my gyno (one of the best out there let me tell you) she put me on 500mg to bring on my cycle and help me lose weight. 500 wasnt enough so on my follow up appointment 3 months later she put me up to 1500mg.
Now I'm having a cycle and have lost 6lbs.
And trust me...you WANT to start out on a lower dose. Jumping in all at once will make you soooooo sick that you won't want to stay on it.

I'm now on 1500 mgs. It makes me sick at this dose, but my doctor wants me to try to maintain this doseage. For a long time, i was on 1000, and I ovulate just fine on that dose. Actually, I ovulate every 35 days anyway, metformin or not. My PCOS is really weird. Metformin has definitely helped me ovulate "better eggs" though.
