Question Dostinex for high Prolactin...

HI!

My endo has just put me on 0.5mg of Dostinex a week to lower my prolactin levels. My levels are only mildly elevated but I have not had a period in 11 months. I took my first pill 3 days ago and I'm feeling extremely tired, pretty much constipated, very thirsty-can't get enough water and I have absolutely no appetite at all! (I hope this is normal).

For those who have taken this drug, did it help you get your periods? how long were you on this drug before you got your first period?

I also heard Dostinex or taking a 'dopamine agonist' can increase your testosterone levels and therefore give you acne. I already have acne problems so I really don't want that as a side effect. For those taking it, did you notice an increase in oily skin, hair loss or acne? did you notice an increase in your libido? I would really appreciate it if you can share your experience...

Thanks..

Hi there!

I'm currently on Dostinex as well after an MRI showed a pituitary microadenoma. My prolactin levels were elevated because of it and my endo said that I'll stay on Dostinex for a year (unless I get pg first). I can't say that it really helped my periods since they're still irregular (though more regular than before), but I know that it's helped some people more. On the Dostinex my prolactin levels are undetectable, so that's good. I'm now on 1/2 of a .5mg pill per week after 3 months of .5mg per week.

As for the side effects you mentioned..
"or those taking it, did you notice an increase in oily skin, hair loss or acne? did you notice an increase in your libido?"

I have had virtually no side effects with Dostinex and did not notice any changes in any of these things. I was previously on bromocriptine and the side effects of that were horrendous, so I may have not noticed any side effects with Dostinex because they were so much milder than the bromocriptine.

Anyway, I hope that the Dostinex works for you! If you have any other questions, just ask.
