Question Dr. Allon or OBGYN Associates- Houston??

I posted earlier asking for recommendations for a Dr in the Northwest area. After doing some research these past few days, I'm realizing I may have to drive a little further that I anticipated. This should not come as a surprise to me since I had to drive 3 hours to Austin to Dr. Michele McDermott to get my initial diagnosis in 1997. (I was not living in Houston at the time). I have not taken care of my PCOS like I should have been in the past 9 years for various reasons and I am now having a lot of trouble.

I called Dr. Allon's office this morning and they said he would see me for PCOS even though I am not trying to conceive at this time. Also, I am having a lot of pelvic pain and I am not sure if Dr. Allon deals with these problems, say if I had to have surgery or something ?

Does anyone know if all of the doctors in the OBGYn Associates are very, very knowledgeable in PCOS besides the RE's?

Thanks so much. It is so frustrating to talk to people who don't know anything about PCOS.

I was seen by Doctor Allon as well and I also have PCOS and was not looking to conceive.
Seeing that you have pelvic pain, he may want to do a transvaginal ultrasound and maybe even an abdominal ultrasound. (Pap smear and maybe a pelvic exam. I dont know.)
When I first saw him, last year in August, my first visit was a consultation; where I actually got to sit down with him at a table and talk one on one about my issues and concerns.
I had three sheets of paper with me, full of questions, and during our conversation; I found that he was able to answer MOST of them.
Those that we didnt touch base on, I happened to ask and it was great!
I think I had him for a full 35 minutes and he was very informative.
He's also a PCOS Specialist. So, if you see him, you're in good hands.
That very same day, I had bloodwork done, a pap smear and pelvic exam.
Than, he had me go in at a different day for a transvaginal ultrasound.
One month later, I had surgery to remove polyps and I'm now on Metformin 1500mg a day.
He requires that after you are put on Metformin for a month , you get bloodwork done.
Than, every six months, as well as transvaginal and/or abdominal ultrasounds.
But, every case is different, so it may be different from patient to patient.

In any case, the staff is really great and they put you at ease. Very professional and yet personable at the same time.

Anyway, any time I had a concern, all I had to do was email him and he would email me back within 3-4 days. (One time, it was a little over a week, but he got back to me AND CALLED ME INSTEAD. He apologized for the wait and went over all the questions I had emailed to him, one by one. So, I was thankful.)
In any case, you can always call a nurse, also. They are also glad to help you with any concerns or questions.
(And if it's after hours, and you would like to speak to the Doctor, the nurse will page him if it highly concerns you and he will call you back and talk to you the very same day.)

And he does surgery; along with biopsy's, laproscopy's, etc.

Anyway, here's his website.

Allon is a native of Houston trained in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Baylor College of Medicine and received his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at Wayne State University. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your reply. You have answered almost all of my questions about him. One of my concerns was all the extra stuff like labs etc. Maybe I can schedule a day when I can have a transvagibnal ultrasound also. I will take a list of questions. It is so great to hear he will sit down and answer all of your questions. I have a few for issues to work through and then I will probably make an appointment with him.

Dr. Allon is a great doctor. I am so sorry that I am not able to see him anymore. Or maybe, I will.
Especially, if I cant find a good doctor in the San Antonio area.
In any case, I read your post about trying Dr. Garza.
I actually have an apt., with him, on Feb. 28th. (I WAS not happy with that news however.)
That is a very long time from now and I have to wonder that if I ever have an issue, and have to sceduke an apt. A/S/A/P, if it's always going to be like that.
If I scedule an apt., it's for the same week or a week afterwards! Not four or five weeks down the road! Maybe, he shouldnt even be accepting new patients?!
So, you see, I'm already dissapointed and am afraid I will never find a good doctor, in the San Antonio area.

Are you from the San Antonio area?
