Well, I posted before that I had an appointment today with a new doctor. She is an OB/GYN who specialises in PCOS and other disorders. She was very nice and listened to what I had to say. She said that since I'm not TTC right now I should be on BCPs for now and gave me a prescription for YASMIN, she said YASMIN is a good a BCP for woman that have PCOS. I told her that I was hoping to get back on MET to help with the IR and she said she wanted me to take the YASMIN for 3 months and then she would check my insulin levels again and make a decision on the MET. I don't understand how thw BCPs are going to effect my insulin levels. Im confused and a little frustrated.

She is thinking that if your hormones are regulated by the bcp's that it will have an effect on your IR. It's the chicken and the egg really. We don't know what causes us to have this. Did the crazy hormones cause the IR? It's possible.
You said she is very knowledgeable, so I would consider her course of action, but of course if you are uncomfortable with it then you need to speak up or get another opinion.
Good luck!
Heather

I do believe she is knowledgeable about PCOS and I am willing to stick this out with her for a while and see what happens. I did question her about the IR and the YASMIN and she said basically what you just told me but I was still a little confused and wanted to get some other opinoins on this. Thanks

I think Ill be alright with the AF part. I never missed AF when I was on BCPs before. It was just the insulin part that I was wondering about. I did call her and she said that the reason was because when I was taking the MET before, I wasn't taking BCPs and she wanted to see if they would effect my insulin levels. That way if I still need the MET she can get a better idea of the dose that I need.
