Thumbs up Dr. Barnett in Plano, TX

Someone on the TX cysters thread recommended Dr. Brian Barnett in at Presbyterian in Plano, TX. Dr. Barnett is a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist. He's a diplomate on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and on the subspecialty board of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

I was a little worried at first that he wouldn't see me, because I'm not TTC'ing. I found out though that he sees lots of PCOS women who are just seeking to get their PCOS under control, and not TTC'ing.

He was very nice, attentive, listened to my questions, answered all of them, discussed the risks associated with PCOS (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, endometrial cancers, etc), and discussed treatment options. I liked that he gave me all the information and gave me options on the different types of treatment. In the end, he told me what he thought the best treatment option would be for my case, but ultimately let me decide which one I wanted to try. He's also very thorough in the labs and screening. He ordered the basic blood work plus some (due to other health factors). He also recommended that I have an endometrial biopsy (sort of like a pap smear, but they go up into your uterus to collect tissue also), to check for any signs of cancer or problems. He explained why he wanted me to do this (going without a period for long periods of time puts you at increased risk of endo cancers, also with a long family history of cancers - breast, uterine, ovarian) he wants to make sure we're starting off with everything ok.

His staff was also very nice and helpful. I went to have blood drawn this morning for the labs. I go in two weeks to have the endo biopsy. He gave me Provera to get my period started again quickly. Then as soon as my labs come back, he's given me a prescription for the glucophage, and I'll start on it. He's starting me off on a lower dose and working my way up over a few weeks, to help keep the gastro problems down some. Then in 3 months I go back for a follow-up, and we'll see how I'm doing and discuss if we need to change the treatment, increase the gluc, or add anything. He also discussed all the lifestyle type changes that will benefit my health and treatment (when and what I eat, exercise, stress management, etc).

I would highly recommend him!
