I can't find any physician in my area willing to help me out with this problem. Can you set up a program from The Cholesterol Center at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati which would help me get started on Metformin or Rezulin? Yes! The best solution is, if possible, for you to come to Cincinnati for a 2-3 hour outpatient visit (may cost up to $3000 for the first time visit). Once we have the necessary information, then we can enroll you in our program, and work with your family physician/gynecologist/obstetrician/reproductive endocrinologist in your home town.

You can do a search on his name and it comes up with a lot of websites.

Good Luck

Hi,
I'm from Montana and I went to see Dr. Glueck in April. There are no REs in my state and his name was all over the internet. My experience was very similar to bakerl's. I was very excited after leaving my first appointment. Since then, I haven't been quite as impressed. I go in to a local lab every two months to get my blood drawn and about a month later, I get the paperwork that states what my levels were and what normal levels are. It's not that informative and there isn't much in the way of explanations. Also, I find it very hard to get ahold of the doctor or Luann. Often times I will wait over a week to get a response from an email I had sent and they're generally only a line or two long, they definately don't want to overinform you. On the plus side, Dr. Glueck has been very aggressive with my treatment and bumped me up to 2550 mg of met within 2 months of my initial visit. Also, I'm sure it's a totally different experience if you live in the area and are actually able to see the doctor every so often and have conversations. All in all, I feel that it is worth it because I believe the met has helped, but don't go in there expecting too much. If you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me. Hope this helps a little.
Sabrina

Default BEWARE of Dr. Charles Glueck

Dr. Glueck is the self-proclaimed PCOS expert who at the time I went to see him (5 yrs ago) was prescribing dangerously high doses of Metformin to his patients. I call him self-proclaimed because on my first visit to him he actually told me that he was the leading PCOS expert in the country. While under his care, he had me taking 800 mg 3 times daily. I took the medicine as prescribed and followed the meal plan; however I was having severe dizziness and my blood sugar was dropping to dangerously low levels (in the 20’s and 30’s) (as a side note, my mother went to him also and had the same symptoms). When I told Dr. Glueck about this, he said that it was impossible for Metformin to make your blood sugar drop and that I must not be following the meal plan. I insisted to him that this was not the case but he didn’t listen and kept me on the same dosage.

On my last visit to him, I again told him my blood sugar had become unstable since taking the Metformin and that I had never had low sugar problems before. He arrogantly insisted that this was impossible and wrote off what I was saying. It was at that time that I realized I needed a second opinion from my family doctor, Dr. Guisinger (a good doctor in the Columbus, OH area and the one who found and diagnosed me with PCOS).

While driving to see Dr. Guisinger, I was having tunnel vision and dizziness. When I arrived, the nurse took my blood sugar and it was so low that it didn’t even register on the machine. She thought maybe the machine was faulty so she took it again and it registered 21. She was floored and told me it was a miracle that I had not slipped into a coma. When I met with Dr. Guisinger, he stated that I must have gotten used to functioning with the low blood sugar. He also told me that his worse diabetic patients weren’t on the dose of Metformin that Dr. Glueck had me on and he immediately put me on a program to come off of it. He also told me that if I had stayed on that amount of Metformin for a long period of time it would have eventually burned out my pancreas.

All this to say, I have never stepped foot into Dr. Glueck’s office since. I haven’t seen him in over 5 yrs so it’s possible that he practicing differently; however, I would highly caution anyone considering going to him because I doubt he’s lost his arrogance. Since going to see Dr. Glueck and trying a myriad of other treatments (extreme low carb diets, Progesterone creams, vitamins and herbal supplements), I have found the only real way to deal with the PCOS is the hard way… a balanced diet and exercise. This has been hard because I wanted an easy fix and I spent 5 years searching for answers only to come back to the reality that most of my problem was poor eating and exercise habits. I am now doing the SparkPeople program. It’s a sensible diet and exercise program that’s online and free (www.sparkpeople.com). It’s too soon to tell how I’ll do but I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen so far. Hope this helps.

I saw Dr. Glucek about 6 years ago. I wouldn't say he is the best PCOS doc.I think that he pretty much says that of himself. I did not have a good experience with him and yes he was expensive we spent about $6000. With no positve results. He kept increasing my metformin even when it was making me so sick to my stomach and my bowels that I couldn't even leave the house. He then gave me a horse size pill that he said would stop that problem and it didn't He just kept telling me to keep taking the met. that it would get better after 8months on the met. no improvement on my side effects that kept me in the bathroom,no periods,no weight lose, and no improvement on my PCOS I quit going to see him. I also did not like his bedside manner. I find it very offensive when a doctor or any person for that matter in a professional atmosphere cusses alot.
So in my opionion he is not the best PCOS doctor who is I don't know I am still looking for the one that will help me.
Now I have a family friend who is seeing him for her PCOS and he has her on Glumetza a new time released metformin and she is having very positive results. So it does just depend on the person.
Good Luck
