Unhappy Dr. Frustration & FMLA - Any Advice???

I need some advice on whether to find a new gyno. I am VERY new to PCOS and was SO happy to find a place to ask questions. I can rarely get in with my dr. and just started seeing the nurse as my regular. About six months ago I started bleeding - for 6 months, gained 20 pounds in about 3 months and lost all energy. I was a mess. I was thrown from dr to dr when finally diagnosed with PCOS.

Recently I've had to file FMLA for all the issues with PCOS, but I NEVER got to speak with my gyno, only to her nurse. She filled them out wrong and I'll probably get denied and I'm terrified.

I am so upset because so much has been so wrong and they finally put me on birth control and so now I don't bleed AS much. I'll wake up some mornings with SO much pelvic pain that it hurts to walk and so much blood (TMI) that it looks like I've had a whole 5 days of period at once.

Things have been so rough, but with the FMLA mix up I'm wondering if my doctor just isn't as sensitive as she should be.

Has anyone been through FMLA woes?

Any advice on my dr?

I don't know anything about FMLA but I would definatly get a different doctor especially if all the dr. did was put you on BCP w/o any testing. I had been bleeding for about 5 weeks straight anywhere from normal to heavy before going to the doctor. They put me on BCP and refered my to get an ultrasound to see if there were any cysts that could be contributing to the excessive bleeding. I would check theis site for info on what to aske the dr and diffferent testing that can/should be done, and then get a different dr and go in armed with you found here and make them listen to you and get the testing you need done.

Whoever handles FMLA where you work should give you a chance to get the forms corrected. Doctors are notorious for not wanting to mess with forms. I thought FMLA could only be used if you are taking unpaid leave to assist a family member. I did not think it could be used for personal disability. That is normally covered under a company's short term disability plan.

Thumbs up

This happens to be one of my areas of expertise.
First of all, make sure you go to your gyno, and BRING THE FORMS. Don't show them to anyone until you see the doc. When the doc comes in, before anything...tell him/her you have questions about it. You may not, but it's a way to get the papers into your doctor's hands.
If the doctor cannot or will not fill out the papers right there, bring them to the "medical records" department YOURSELF. Make sure you make a follow-up appointment, because the forms require a follow-up. Then, when the papers are complete, ask them to FAX the forms to FMLA and to you, or to CALL YOU IMMEDIATLY so you can fax them yourself. If you don't hear from them in 7 days, start calling and bugging the **** out of them, because you only have 25 days from your first date of absence to apply.

If you get denied, don't stress. You can apply for FMLA anytime...even if you haven't been absent from work. But your previous absences will NOT be covered.

I hope that was helpful!!!
