Smile Dr. just prescribed Spironolactone

Hello everyone!! I found the soulcysters site several months ago and found it extremely helpful. Then my computer crashed and it was beyond repair and it's taken me awhile to get a new one. Now that I'm up and running I do have questions for those of you who are using spironolactone. My doctor just prescribed 50 mg. twice a day and I've been taking it for 4 days now. She wants to see me in a month to see how I'm doing. Here are my questions:

1. I see in viewing other messages that I might need 100 mg twice a day. Has anyone seen success at 50 mg. twice a day?

2. I also see that it can up to a full year to see results. Is that an accurate time table?

3. I had a hysterectomy in 1999. Has anyone else taking spiro had a hysterectomy and if so, did the spiro help?

4. I've been taking high blood pressure medicine that includes a diuretic. My doctor switched to medicine without the diuretic since she prescribed the spiro and thought it might be too much to have the diuretic in the bp medicine too, but the spiro doesn't seem to be helping with water retention like the blood pressure medicine did. Has anyone else experienced that?

5. When you take the spiro twice a day, how long do you wait to take the second dose?

I think that covers my questions for now. Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences. It is a great help knowing I'm not alone!

I took Spiro. and my doctor put me on 50mg. twice a day to start with. I think this is a common starting point. I never had to increase it but they can later if you see no results. I started to notice a thinning of extra hair and lightening after about 3 months. It worked well for me and I had no side affects except extra potty trips in the beginning. (The water pill affect) I do not have high blood pressure. It was probably best of your doctor to change your other pill if adding this so you don't have a double whammy!! Good luck with it. It worked well and easily for me.

Thank you Chrissy. It's really encouraging to see that the spiro helped you. Are you still taking it, and if not, did the hair start to come back? I'm just really curious as to how people have done or are doing on the spiro.

Hi

I've been on Spiro for about 18 months now. My Endo said that it takes 1 year to get to maximum results.

I take 100 in the morning. I also have raised bp, and my Endo has given me Bendrofluazide and Amlodapine for it.

pm me if you want

Eva
