Red face Dr not taking me seriously?

Hello there, my name is Gabrielle and I was diagnosed at age 15 with PCOS. I was told that it would cause weight gain, irregular periods and trouble conceiving. That was the extent of my knowledge until I recently began researching PCOS for myself. Turns out the Dr. was leaving out so much information. He put me on BC pills to regulate my cycle and left it at that. I recently looked into laser treatments for my hirutism and the woman who did my consultation recommended having bloodwork done to determine my hormone levels to make sure I am not wasting time and money on treatments. When I talked to my Dr. he said that I didn't need to worry about it.."just take your BC pills, there isn't much else to do about it". Obviously, I am looking for a new Dr.! So many unexplained issues make so much sense to me after reading up on this. I am now 24 years old and I am ready to try a more aggressive treatment to alleviate the symptoms. I was wondering if anyone from SW PA could recommend a Dr. who might take this a little more seriously. Thanks ahead of time for any information you might be able to offer!

Gabrielle

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with your doctor. It's amazing to me that so many doctors don't take PCOS seriously, or even know much about it in the first place. I think you are wise to be researching PCOS for yourself, and also to be looking for a new doctor. I wish you the best of luck!
