Dr Rant...

Hey All,

so I went to my dr today because I have been bleeding for like 12 days with a period. He kept referring to 'my size' (exact words) using them as a reason he couldnt check me properly, and how hes sure im not gunna get pregnant because of 'my size'.
He is the same Dr who delivered my baby, and he was really nice then, but now he is dying for me to lose weight. I told him how hard I am trying, and how i was diagnosed with PCOS and he said not to worry so much abt the pcos, to worry more abt my size and losing weight... WTF? Clearly I am trying to lose wieght as i keep telling him.

Then i asked him if i shouldnt b on birth control or w/e to help and he said no, just lose weight and it will help itself.. he then proceeded to push the seratonin-plus program he is conveniently running form his office- which i would love to do but it costs $1400 and isnt covered by insurance.. should i look for a new dr? What do you al think?

Jeez, I am getting sick of doctors who are so rude about weight. Do they think we like being this big? My doctor says the only hting I can do to treat my PCOS is lose weight. 20 pds atleast. And if it was so easy I would. I AM TRYING. So I totally know what you mean. I would maybe see another just for a second opinion but keep this doc too just because he knows your history. If the new doc works out then you can have your records copied for him/her. I think he is ridiculous for not checking you. 12 days is a long time to be on a period. I had a long period and they shot me with progesterone. And checked me and did a pregnancy test. It was just because of the PCOS. I went to urgent care cuz I was bleeding so much. Maybe go there? $1400 is ridiculous. I mean who has that kind of money? I guess some people do but I don't. DOes the seretonin help with PCOS? ANyways good luck and I hope you feel better! I am sorry to ramble.

It is so hard to find a good Dr. I started gaining my weight when I wasw 13 right after i started my period witch i think is when the PCOS came about. every year I have gained more and more weight and I am not a "BIG EATER" the Dr always says EAT LESS! I have very little energy so I dont excersise a lot but I know my weight is mainly due to PCOS I also have Hypothyroidisum that doesnt help. but anyway I had a very heavy period for 5 months it was to the point where I bought Depends and cut out the middle and used them for pads and I was still Bleeding through! I had cramps so bad I would black out I got sever sweats finally I went to the E.R. they made sure I hadent lost too much blood, and gave me something to stop the period. then told me I needed a good obgyn because I needed to be properly diagnosed with PCOS. Its been hell!

Some docs are such jerks!

You obviously just had a baby 9 months ago, so how can he say that he sure you're not going to get PG because of your "size"?

What is the seretonin-plus program, and how is it supposed to help you lose weight?

Sounds like he is self motivated, he doesn't seem to care about you, only trying to manipulate you into doing his expensive program.

I would file a formal complaint, since he is probably bullying his other patients into his expensive program by telling them that they only way they can treat their PCOS, or get PG is by losing weight on his program.

Oh, BTW, I weighed:
180lbs when I got PG with #1,
225lbs when I got PG with #2,
200lbs when I got PG with #3, and
225lbs when I got PG with #4.

My "size" never prevented me from getting PG (and staying PG) 4 times.
PCOS did, but once I put the PCOS into remission, getting PG was not that difficult.

its so frustrating when Drs go by the book with everything.Dont they realise that every single person is different! & they always give you 'the look' when you say that youve been trying to lose weight! I recently moved & my biggest fear was going to a new Dr...i had all my files sent up from my previous Dr which helped alot.When i finally saw my new Dr (about 1 month ago) i told him i had been feeling pretty feral etc etc & he just fobbed off everything i said & just kept saying "oh its the pcos,its the pcos" i could have told him my leg was broken and he'd have said "oh its just the pcos" lol...i wasnt going to go back to him but did & the second appointment went so much better...he got all my bloodwork done,we had a good chat about weight etc & without even asking he put me on Reductil & a higher mg of Metformin.

I guess you just have to be persistent & keep at it.Theyre there to help you,its your body & if you truly feel like he/she isnt listening then you need to be VERY firm!
And when you finally find that perfect Dr,dont let them go! lol

I HATE DOCTORS! I would find myself a new one if I could, but the fact is I can't just see one doctor. Being at a military treatment facility, you see a new doctor everytime!

Just recently I saw a new doctor about getting a referal to an RE because DH and I are hitting that One year mark of trying with PCOS.... and she said that there's no way that I have PCOS because I'm "thin".... I'm so sick of doctors not taking thinks on a case by case basis and generalizing everyone into a specific category. I have lab work and U/s to prove it, but she says I need to have the labs redone!

I'm so sorry that you doctor is a big d*ck...! Sorry for the harsh works, but I'm so tired of doctors not listening nor caring!

me & my DH can relate to the whole military Dr thing...he is in the Airforce & HATES going to medical coz the Drs are useless! The dont listen to anything he has to say & are never willing to look into things.We've lost count how many times DH has enquired about a sperm count.
Im so glad that im not in the military,especially when it comes to dealing with PCOS! Would be sooo frustrating!

Meechy,... My husband (USAF, A1C... hopefully SA soon!) just recently called because he has a fungal/toe infections and they said, "We don't do that here." and hung up on him! I would see an American doctor outside of the mil If I could... but we're overseas right now in Okinawa, Japan, so it's impossible. You're right, they don't care and they ignore you.

I hope you get your little bean before he deploys!
