I've been ttc for 3 yrs now and have an appt with Dr. Verkauf on Tuesday next week, have any of you seen him? I am SO AFRAID he is going to be another one of these "Lose weight and then come back" type dr's. I've seen it with my own 2 eyes fat people can have babies. I just can't stomach the thought of him being one of the doctors who only see my weight not the bigger picture.
I hope that it works ok for you. I'm in the Tampa area and have my first appointment on Wednesday with a PCOS doctor that I found on this site. Dr. Catherine Cowart is her name. I can tell you how well the appointment goes!!! Good luck!
I got back a while ago from Dr Cowart's office...she was amazing. She sat me down and explained exactly what PCOS was (since my last doctor just mailed me a pamphlet) and how it was affecting me. Tomorrow morning I'll go in for a fasting blood test as well as an ultrasound in a couple of weeks to see if there are any cysts. I highly recommend her and the staff they were so polite and helpful.
Does she treat PCOS when you aren't TTC? I'm planning to start TTC again in about a year after our wedding. I'm really not happy with the doctors I've been seeing lately. I need to find a Endo and I would really like it to be a RE.

I live in the Largo area and actually had an appt. with Dr. Cowart yesterday. Her staff is amazing however she is one of those doctors that is lose weight and then come back. She had me in tears, telling me I needed to loose more weight and that I should just go back on the pill until i had dropped a significant amount of weight. I don't think I'll be going back to see her, so if anyone else can recommend a doctor in the Tampa bay area that doesn't discriminate against the fat girls, let me know please! Thanks

I'm really sorry that happened to you, but I'm also a fat person (yes I'll admit it here! I'm over 200 pounds) and that's not all she told me to do. I mean she said it looks like I do have insulin resistance but she ordered bloodwork and then she'll do a glucose tolerence test next week to confirm this. In the mean time she did say to start the South Beach Diet because I would need to watch my carb intake and the South Beach Diet would teach me what carbs would help and what would hurt me. I'm really not sure what your circumstance is and I'm not a doctor to tell you what she said was correct or not. But are you TTC or just trying to get eveything in order? I'm TTC but I've told her that I'd like to get my weight to a healthy limit and also control my other symptoms so that I don't have a complicated pregnancy. I have another appointment at her office on wednesday, I'm really sorry you ended up in tears.

I think she does because one of the first questions she asked me was if we were TTC or not. She said because the plan of 'attack' would be a bit different depending on what we were going to do. I guess the best thing would be to call her office (she has one in Cleawater and one in Tampa) and see what the nurses tell you. I know that she's not an OB.
