Default Is Dr. wrong?

Hello! I just found out about this disorder a couple months ago. Went off BCP in August and have gone 8 months without a period. So I went to an OB gyn and I was 114 lbs, 5'6 and he tells me gain some weight. But then he did a scan and sees I have multiple cysts on my ovaries. But they are not enlarged. And he did bloodwork but all the hormones are "normal". I have gained about 6-8 lbs over the last 2 months but still don't have a period. He said he's not going to label me polycystic ovarian syndrome bc I have no other symtoms. But why else would I have the cysts? Isn't it possible to still have PCOS with symptoms being no period and multiple cysts? And if not, then why do I have these symptoms? He told me to just not stress and wait a few months but I am freaking out about it now. Should I see someone else?

If you have cysts and no period, it definitely could be PCOS. Even if your hormones are in the "normal" range, they may be at the far ends of that, or your LH/FSH ratio can be off (even though both #s are in the normal range).

I think I would probably try another doctor and see what they think. Either way, a full work up is in order to figure out what is going on. It isn't normal to skip periods.

I am the same way! Got off of BCP in Nov 2008. No period still mid Jan 2009, so I went to the dr, started clomid...no ovulation. dr did an u/s and saw multiple cysts and said it was pcos...but i don't think she had a testosterone or insulin level checked. Progesterone level was very low (<0.5). I am thin, have no excessive facial hair but do have a few small skin tags, have always had irregular periods (basically have never had a period without BCP) and have experienced increased wt gain in the past 2 years. So, my dr is treating me like i have pcos- i started metformin and am continuing with fertility drugs.

Default Exact same experience!

I've always been very thin and have always had irregular periods. Three years ago, my doctor ran tests and found that I had polycystic ovaries. Like your doctor, she would not diagnose me with PCOS because my androgens were low, and I don't have any other symptoms. She suggested I gain weight. I gained about 5 pounds and reached a near normal BMI, but my cycles are still irregular, and I'm still unable to conceive. I sought a second opinion, and the doctor said the same -- that my body weight is the problem, not the polycystic ovaries, though he did concede that I do maybe have a 'mild' case of PCOS. My doctor finally agreed to prescribe Clomid, which I took for four cycles. I ovulated each time according to the blood tests but did not conceive. Frustrated, I went to a fertility doctor, who said that because I ovulated on Clomid, my fertility problems likely are due to PCOS and not low body weight, as women who have hypoathalymic amenorrhea don't respond to Clomid. He wants me to undergo hormone tests and an ultrasound yet again to confirm a diganosis, have an HSG to test my fallopian tubes, and then start IUI. I'm so frustrated, and I wish I'd seen a specialist sooner!!
