Hello, I have a problem with dry hands and peeling skin during cool weather. The peeling occurs on the sides of my thumbs, and when it's really dried out it can come off in thick bits. I try like crazy to keep it moisturized, but nothing does the trick to let the skin heal over. Even though the irritated area is very small, it's still a pain in the rear. Sometimes if it looks ragged, I'll cover it with a small band-aid.
Does anyone have a special cream or ointment for this dry skin problem? I'd appreciate any help!

I just saw a doctor on a tv show yesterday say that for dry hands, just before you go to bed, you should put a generous amount of plain ole' Vaseline on your hands and then put cotton gloves on. I have not tried it myself yet but I don't know if wearing cotton gloves all night would drive me nuts or not!
Vaseline is so dang cheap! I say it's worth a try!
oh i know what you mean. My hands are always like it. Can you ask your dr/pharmacist to recommend something?? ive got e45 cream for mine, but i dont know if you can get it in usa. hope you find something that works soon.

I had horrible dry, peely hands and fingers as a child/teen, and I used something called Bag Balm. It's made for cow udders (even says 'veterinary use only' on the jar) and stinks horribly, but works wonders! I put it on at night, sometimes with gloves, and had soft hands in the morning (works well on feet too). I used to buy it at a sewing store, and have seen it at garden places too.
I still get dry skin, esp, since I teach elementary school and wash my hands and use Purell constantly. I use Alba lotion and occasionally Eucerin in the small tube, very similar to Vaseline.
La - my DH had hands that constantly peeled and cracked, it got to the point it hurt him to move his fingers, so he went to the Dr. and he was diagnosed with Psoriasis (sp?). Don't know if your situation is similar to his, but maybe worth checking?

if it isn't psoriasis, drinking plenty of fluids and switching to hand made soap work wonders
my hands would get painfully dry because i wash them alot, i finally started making my own soap and now they get dry when i wash dishes with dawn, but no where near as bad as it used to be

I have the same problems. Finally went to a dermatologist. I ended up having eczema on my hands. The creams they prescribe work wonders. I now wear disposable gloves when messing with any cleaning detergents to avoid breakouts. And I look for the most greasy oily all natural products I can find to slather all of my hands several times a day.
