I have incredibly dry skin. I moisturize full-body twice a day and use hand lotion quite a few times but I am always, always dry. My hands and lips get dry and cracked, my face gets flaky, even my scalp is horribly dry. It is so disgusting but I describe my scalp as being like a reptile's skin shedding. I try dandruff shampoos, washing my hair daily, washing every other day, every two days, everything. I just don't know what to do! It's super embarrassing.
Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be related to my pcos? I guess I should talk to my doctor when I go Tuesday. I don't believe it's from the medicine because I've had this longer than I've been on medicines.

Hi there. IM a DRY chick too. My hand in the winter crack and bleed. My scalp is dryer , then dry. I am now get dry skin patches on my legs, back, tummy, chest. The dermertologist told me I had psoriasis. I dont believe it. Yet, when I get stressed out it comes with a vengence. I have this cream, that I am rubbing on. The doc gave me something called scalp-a-cin drops from my scalp. Yet, I haven't used it. I get a hot oil treatment like 3-4 weeks with helps some, but once again it is here.
For my hands, I have used of late Lubriderm. I usually use Eucerin creme for hands. I hope this helps you. You are not alone.

Thanks so much. I'll have to keep trying out different lotions. My mom had mentioned that scalp-a-cin before too but I haven't had any luck finding it and I haven't found anyone else that has used it. I'll have to keep looking for it!
I have tried just about EVERY lotion out there...even dermatologist prescriptions. I even tried slathering on petroleum jelly at night. Okay this is going to sound weird...but I swear it is a miracle cure for me: Virgin Coconut Oil. You can get it a The Vitamin Shoppe or a natural foods store. It is actually for cooking. It smells wonderful, but if you don't like coconut you can get expeller pressed that doesn't smell like coconut.
When I first got it, I put some on a cystic pimple that was festering and about to erupt on my chin....the next morning it was GONE.
I started using it on my elbows and dry ankles and they look NORMAL. The oil is actually solid at room temp, so I put a container of it in the sink full of hot water and let it melt while I am in the shower. After my shower, before toweling off, I slather this stuff on and let it absorb while I was my face, brush my teeth, etc. Then towel off and get dressed. OMG....My skin hasn't felt this soft since I was a baby. Even my husband is loving it.
Don't just rub it on, eat it too....drink plenty of water. Doing low carb, the coconut oil is kind of a nice treat.
Have your thyroid checked. Hypothyrodism causes dry skin. I've been on synthroid for about 4 months and my heels don't look like a dirt path with the grand canyon running through them anymore-they aren't 'smooth' yet, but getting there!

Thanks a million ladies! Amity, I'm definitely going to check out that coconut oil. I've given everything else a shot, it's worth a try. I'll also be mentioning this to my doctor tomorrow and we'll see what she has to say about it.
Me too. I use Nut Body Butter from the Body Shop several times a day. It's the best I've found. I've seen the coconut oil in the vitaman section at Walmart. I'll have to give that a try as well.

I get dry skin too. Especially red dry patches on the tops of my hands. The BEST lotion that I have used and it actually clears it up too with repetitive use is Gold Bond Medicated Lotion in the green bottle. I absolutely LOVE this stuff!!

I have eczema and extremely dry skin--Not a great combo--Winter is the worst for me...You have to combat dry skin from the inside as well as outsidet....Make sure that you are staying hydrated, I drink atleast 100 oz of h2o daily...I also use Dove unscented soap and Oil of Olay has a shower lotion that is heat activated ( i love hot showers even tho i know they are bad) I also use Vasaline's cocoa butter lotion and body butter products during the day and slather myself with their petroleum jelly before bed...Fish oils and evening primrose oil also helps with skin...

I love coconut oil--Never thought to put it on my skin tho--I will definitely try this
Another vote for coconut oil! When I was in Thailand, you could buy it for pennies. I slathered it on head to toe for 3 weeks...my skin looked awesome.
I still use it now, or I use my new 'holy grail' lotion: Kiehl's Creme De Corps. FABULOUS. It has a high level of squalane. Used daily...glorious skin. It's not cheap, so I buy the super, large pump bottle. Can't live without it.

I will 2nd Maureen on the Gold Bond lotion. This stuff rocks!!!!!! Also, if you don't drink a lot of water, up your water intake as well. That can help with the dryness as well.

I have been using "Lay it on thick" found at Bath and Body works. It is a strong Shea butter base and I have found that it the only thing that will last all day long for my severally dry cracked skin. I have used it on my feet as well but have found that as long as I wear socks and shoes/slippers most of the day/night, my feet don't get dry and crack.
