Question Dumb Question?

Years and Years ago, long before I was diagnosed with PCOS (still hate that name and prefer Stein-Leventhal Syndrome....oh dear digressing already), I had some electolysis done. Worked great for me, and by being put on the pill helped prevent any new growth. Now that I am 34 and was off the pill for 18 months to ttc, if it weren't for tweazing every morning, I could sport a better beard than my dh. So now that I am back on the pill, I made an appt to start getting zapped again. So my dumb question. Does anyone out there that gets electrolysis tip? It was so many years ago when I had it done the first time around, that I can't remember if that was something that is done or not. You tip a hairdresser, a manicurist......Should I plan to tip or would I end up insulting the electolysis lady? Thanks for any insight! I just want to do the right thing........

I probably wouldn't tip. I have never heard of tipping a hairdresser or manicurist - they get paid. I would think that would be the same for getting hair zapped. Maybe someone closer to your area would have a better answer as to what is the custom in your area. It is not the custom here.

You are lucky that electolysis worked for you. I had it done when i was first diagnosed and within a week the hair came back. No one can figure out why. I finally stpped going I couldn't see paying for this when it wasn't doing any good. Waxing doesn't even help me. As for a tip. I wouldn't. They are trained professionals, do you tip the doctor?? It isn't like a waitress who makes minimum wage. Just my thought here.

I tip the lady who gives me laser hair removal treatments, because it is at a salon rather than a doctor's office. When I had electrolysis done years ago, I never thought to leave a tip, but now I'm not sure what is customary.

MaLee, you have never heard of tipping a hairstylist of manicurist? Unless they are the owners, it is very customary to tip those people.

I don't tip my esthetician for electrolysis. I have been there EVERY WEEK for a year- she's making plenty off me as it is. (PS- I do tip her for pedicures and manicures and my hairdresser when I get highlights- I tip for fun things- not when I am already paying to be tortured!

Not around here. I asked the ladies at work today (Most go every week - 2 weeks) and they have never heard of that either. Why should I tip someone when all they do is Trim my hair. I have never been in there longer than 15 minutes. It cost $15 - that's a dollar a minute. I get paid $5.15 an Hour. I have to work for three hours to pay for a haircut that takes five to ten minutes. Why should I tip her?

Default Thanks

Thanks for all of your responses! Here in Minnesota it is customary to tip hairdressers and manicurists etc--just to clarify that one As for the electrolysis, guess I'll go with the majority and not do it, as she will be getting lots of big checks from me. Thanks again for all of the responses! Love having all of you as an online support group for all of this stuff, It's nice to not be alone.
