I'm curious about this also. This drug is not approved for women in the USA (what is? *sigh*) and was only recently approved for men with the prostate-type problems, like propecia. I mentioned it already to RE who was very reluctant to discuss it. My insurance won't touch it and it's hundreds per month...is anyone having luck with prescriptions or insurance related to dutasteride (or even propecia?)

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
I posted a message on dutasteride a while ago.
Believe me, it works wonderful. I'm in my second month now and the babyhairs that were popping out on my forehead last month have grown thicker and longer. Also the rest of my hair is back in its shiny, healthy looking condition it was 4 years ago, befor the massive shedding began. Overall my hair is looking a lot thicker than a while ago, though it hasn't recovered 100% yet. But I have high hopes for the future again and feel feminine again.
I highly recommend dutasteride. I take it together with bcp Yasmine. I'm not a religious person, far from it actually, but I think dutasteride is a Godsend. I know it hasn't been tested officially on women yet, but even in the worst scenario that it would take a few years of my life (most likely it's perfectly ok), I'd rather have that if I can at least spend the rest of my life with nice hair.
I wonder why you write that it would cost you hundreds, guineapig. I got my first 3 packs for free from my endo (as samples) but the price on the pack says: 44 euro. Euro at this moment is worth a little more than the dollar and 1 pack lasts one month. So that would make approx. 48 US$ a month. Not cheap, I admit, but some women spend that each week on the hairdresser and I'll be happy to pay it in the future.
A bit, but not considerably. I have only mild hirsutism so I've always managed by waxing moustache every two weeks, shave legs every other day and bikini line only in summer (but every other day in summer). Not so different from a lot of women without pcos. The difference I notice bodyhair-wise: I wax moustache only once every three weeks or month, shave legs once or two times a week. Don't know about bikiniline, it's winter over here, freezing, and I let it grow, lol.
O yes, once every month and a half I pluck a chinhair, as opposed to once every three weeks when not on dut.
Difference on skin so far is minimal too. I still break out once in a while, though less than before. But that could be attributed to Yasmine as well, which I started at about the same time, approx. two months ago now.
I think dut for some reason mainly adresses androgenetic alopecia, ie hairloss due to excess testosterone.
Thank you. I would say that there is some benefit to facial/body hair. If it grows in slower that is an improvement. I do not have head hair issues and I do have some hirsitism. I have considered asking for this drug but things are managed right now after laser. I could accept things as they are now forever so I guess thats not too bad. Dutasteride would be a back up for me possibly. And yes, i understand that the Yasmine might be controlling the body/face hair too so I will keep looking for info on just the one drug.
