Default DVT in calf

Hi, everyone...

Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced DVT in their calf after or during pregnancy (or any other time, I guess)?? I just had a c-section on 9/11 and had premature labor. My twins were 28.5 weeks. 2 days ago I had a sharp pain in my left calf and at first thought it was due to a charley horse..I thought I'd better get it checked out tho. The doctor did a doppler and told me it was DVT, but it was a very small clot in a small vein. He told me to take 325mg of aspirin daily, which I have been doing. I go back in a week for another ultrasound....in the meantime I am worrying myself sick. I don't know if it's my hormones or what but I am going nuts.

Has anyone been thru this or have any advice for me?

Thanks,
Lauren

Hey Lauren! Congrats on the birth of your two sweet babies!!! I also had a DVT in my calf after giving birth. Mine was a little different. I had my DS on 10/25/06 via c-section, then I had to have surgery on 2/10/07 as I had a very large hematoma that got infected and I ended up with MRSA so I was hospitialize for 5 days and then went home on bedrest and a month later was readmitted to the hospital 3/15/07 due to a DVT in my right calf. My hematoma was from the c-section and the DVT was a result of the surgery I had in February 2007. I don't know if it's hormone related. When I was admitted for the DVT I was put on blood thinners and then went home on them as well. I took them from March 2007 - October 2007.

Hope you and your twins do well and your at home together soon!!

Kristi

Having a C-section is a risk factor for DVT's, so I don't think there is anything else going on with you to cause it.Do you have a history of any other clotting disorders? Hopefully the aspirin will do the trick. Good luck and congratulations on your beautiful twins!

kristhi gosh you went through a really rough time!

Thanks Kristhi & Lori Jane!

Lori Jane~~No, I don't have any history of clots or anything. I was in the bed @ the hospital for 3 days before the twins were born due to the fact that I was in premature labor. After the c-section I was pretty immobile for a couple days, which is normal I am sure. The doc says it was a combination of those things. I feel a little less freaked out today, but I am still gonna be worried til I go back to the doctor next week.

Lauren
