Red face DX 1999--Just starting tx

I was orginally dx'd in 1999 and put on bcp...now everyone wants me to take it seriously and get started with tx...I am a little unnerved by it all and HATE the fact I have to start a new med...Metformin. I have lost 10 pounds on my own in 2 months and plan to keep going..my dr recommended The Rosedale Diet any thoughts?....Just wanted to post something real quick and say hello to ALL!!! I plan to return and look forward to the support and the SUPPORTING (if I can)......

TAKE CARE

Welcome to SC! Congrats on the weight loss! Is there a reason that your Dr WANTS to put you on the met?

Hey there!!!! I just started Met last month. My Dr. told me it would help with the overall symptom control of PCOS. There's a lot of great info on this site, as well as several women on Met here. Don't be afraid to look around for yourself, and talk to others, and your Dr. Good luck and I hope you find treatment thats best for you!!!!

Im not super familiar with the Rosedale Diet. I know that the main point is to control leptin levels (which the doctor who created the diet says will control hunger). The main idea is low carb, low protein, high fat (good fat). I worry about the low protein aspect of this diet. From everything I've heard, it's very important to eat protein. You may want to do a little more research about any diet that you plan to try. Good luck and let us know how it's working (if you do decide to try it).

My doctor says that the met will reduce the insulin resistance thereby reducing the testoserone and get me back to regular periods.

Default Metformin--blah

Well, I have been on the Metformin 5 days and have had some stomach upset/cramping and some diahrrea--praying it will go away/subside by the end of next week. Have been a little sickly anyway on top of it..got a book on the Rosedale Diet--nothing outstanding the usual low carb crap and yes it does encourage low protein which I too think is silly.
The past 2 weeks I have not been exercising much as have felt under the weather, tired and in a fog. I am getting sick of this sluggishness I must say....Am contemplating going back on BCP's--I felt better in a way.

How is everyone else???? I am glad I have somewhere to vent as no one has really heard of PCOS or seems to care/take seriously.

Question: should I see an endocronologist? Or is OB/GYN good enough as he ha smuch expereince treating this (I would have preferred a woman though).

Well...thanks for everyone's thoughts....

Take Care/Good Thoughts

Rachael

Hi Rachael,

to SC.

Congrats on the weight loss!
Met is a very common med that is Rx'd for PCOS Tx, but not everybody chooses to take it. I don't take met anymore, haven't taken it for the last 3 years.

I hope you have great success with your weight loss and PCOS Tx.

Just wanted to say hello and welcome. You can find some more info on met on the metformin thread, and though i've never heard of the rosedale diet either, maybe on the diet/exercise thread more people have heard about it or tried it. I'm sure you'll find lots of info and support here!
