Points: 447.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 447.00 | Dx in April of this year Hello everyone:
My name is Karen Lopez I am 23 years old and I was diagnosed April 28, 2004. I am an extremely shy person and it has taken me seven months to post my story.
After not having my period for a year and gaining around 50 pounds in less than a year I was finally dx with something real. It was really frustrating going from doctor to doctor and they did not know what was wrong. I was happy to find out what was wrong but I immediately felt into a deep deppresion. I know that women with this syndrome have a difficult time getting pregnant and I immediately thought of the worst. My joy is to one day have children and a large family and it made me really sad to think that I cannot have children. My mind changed because I do not want to be pregnant right now, therfore I cannot start a fertility program. When the time comes I will seek treatment.
Well, after I was dx the doctor just put me on the pill, but I decided not take it and decided to do research on my own. I have not seen a doctor since I was dx and I would like to know if that is wrong. I read books about PCOS and I logged on to the message board to learn more about this problem.
In June I got my period for the first time after it didn't come for one year. I started exercising and eating well and I lost 15 pounds. The problem is that now I go to school full time and I work full time and I cannot seem to stick to my diet or have any type of exercise routine.
My symptoms are as follow: Painful (really painful) cramps, depression, hair on my chin, stomach, arms and finger (it's really nasty), especially my back. I hate this because I never had a problem with facial hair and now I feel like I can't get rid of it. I gained weight, especially around my stomach, and even though I lost 15 lbs. I am still pretty heavy (I weigh 141 and I'm only 4'11). I hate it!
I'm sorry if this is a bit long I'm sorry. I just wanted to thank everybody who shares their story and for the many people that maintain such a great website.
I'm not sure what to do about the hair on my back, maintaining a healthy diet even though I'm busy fom 6:00 am - 11:00 pm. Should I seek another doctor? If anyone could provide any type of help It would be very helpful.
Thank you,
Karen |

I only say this because our our increased risk of getting things like diabeties, and if no ones checked u for IR (insulin resistance) then you should be checked and put on Met if nessasary. You could look into laser treatment for your hair problem but i hear its very expensive. I felt the same whne i was dx about the kids thing because i've always wanted a large family too, but I try not to let it get me down because im not ttc just yet and im sure that i will concieve one day with or without medical intervention. and hopefully by the time i have kids medicine will be even more advanced to help ppl like us (I'm 19 incase your wondering) Okay thats it for me but just before i go a big congrats on your fantastic weight loss! Way to go gurl!!

It's hard to balance everything and usually diet and exercise are the first to go. As for my experience, I found that the only way I would workout was if I could study at the same time. Which meant that I could jog on a treadmill or bike and read at the same time. It helps a little but not nearly as much as my swimming did. Well, I don't really have any advice other than see an endocrinologist... Hope all goes well. What are you going to school for?
