dx with PCOS 6 months ago Hi,
My name is Kelly and i'm 14 years old ( almost 15) I found out I had PCOS in August of 2004. I had gone in for a check up, and my doctor asked me when my last period was. Well it had been 15 months, but I hadn't thought anything about it, not having a period was a relief to me seeing as I had gotten my first period when I was 9. So I guess you could say it was a break.
Thats when everything seemed to go wrong. My doctor noticed that I had hair growth where I shouldn't have hair. The tests started and they haven't ended. To add to everything I HATE needles, so having blood work done all the time isn't exactly my cup of tea.
I have gone to a PCOS doctor three times since August. They have put me on Met.,Aldactone, and Birth Control (Tri-nessa) The meds at first made me feel very sick all the time. If I didn't eat I felt sick, If I ate I felt worse. After a couple months of not eating a lot, I finally felt better. One good thing that came out of not eating that much for a while, was that I couldn't eat as much as I used to. That helped a great deal with trying to loose weight.
I'm still not totally sure what exactly PCOS is and what it can cause in the "long run". Ever since I was little I have always had UTI's (Urinary Tract Infections) So i'm pretty used to going to the doctors a lot. It has been scary the past 6 months, it has been a big help having my parents and family there for me. It feels good to get everything out in the open, considering I haven't told other people about my PCOS.
However there has been a positive outcome in having PCOS. I realized that I needed to loose weight. So since the summer I have lost about 33lbs and gone down 5 pant sizes!!
Does anyone have any tips on dealing with PCOS as a teenager. Or anything to make me feel better?
