Default Early m/c and short bleeding

First off, thank you all so much for your words of comfort. This week has been strange and sad for me.

I was wondering for those of you that have had early m/c's, how long did you bleed? I am still cramping but I am spotting now. Early Wednesday morning I started bleeding and Thursday and friday it was heavy with clots and now it's almost over? My dr. said I would bleed for a week at least. Is the fact that I am spotting lightly but cramping pretty badly a bad sign? I didn't have a d&c so I don't know if that's a factor or not. Should I give my dr. a call tomorrow or not worry about it?

TIA

I had 4 hours of bleeding and cramping, clots etc. Then I was fine for a few days. Then I had a couple of days of light bleeding and cramping. I was 5.5 wks.

If I recall correctly... didn't you have a chemical pregnancy? Betas weren't that high, then started to drop?

With a chemical pregnancy I think you generally won't have anything different than a period. That's how mine was. Just like a period, bleeding no heavier, cramps no less. Lasted normal period length, 5 days or so. Normally you don't bleed so much when it is super early because there hasn't been time for all that much to build up in there.

With my blighted ovum I bled heavy for about a week - passed the sac the first day - and then bled lighter for a few more days.

With my later miscarriage (after seeing a heartbeat) I bled off and on for months - but it was kind of a complicated case.

It varies widely! I think your pattern sounds normal, but I would just watch for fever, really bad cramps, things that sound your alarms, and then call. I had essentially a weird light period for two weeks with my early loss, never the heavy stuff, and there was nothing leftover or any trouble.

Is a chemical pregnancy only caused when you take fert. meds? I don't think it was a chemical pregnancy but yes my betas weren't high then started to drop. Hmm... my dr. never mentioned that term. I did have several large clots and not the average ones you get with AF. They were a greyish color and different all around. I don't know if that is consistant with a chemical pregnancy either. The cramps have let up this afternoon and I am still spotting a little but not much. Thanks for the responses.

A chemical pregnancy isn't related to fertilty meds... I don't know why it is called that, maybe because it means briefly there are a pregnancy hormones (you are biochemically pregnant) but that is all there is? Essentially an egg fertilizes and implants and begins to create HCG but then it dies very soon afterwards and you will get your period on time or just a few days later than expected. HCG will never get very high - probably under 100 in most cases but don't quote me there.

I think it depends on how far along you were when you lost the baby. I've had two miscarriages so far and with the first one I m/c'd at 8 weeks so I bled for two weeks (with cramping) after that. With the second one I lost it at about 4 weeks so I only bled for a week.

I only bled about 6 days with my chemical (5 weeks) with only two days heavy with cramping, clots, etc. so I think that is normal.

Deanna - I just had a chemical pregnancy too. I started bleeding heavily late Tuesday night. I bled quite heavily, with cramps and clots, all day Wednesday but since yesterday, it's been a lot lighter and I think I can say I've only had spotting since last night. Usually, my period lasts 5 days and I have a day or two of spotting after. It must be normal.
