My cousin is anorexic. I know at one point she was limiting herself to no more than 400 calories per day.

I don't think I had an ED in high school, but I certainly had disordered eating. I ate just a teensy bit a day (800 cals or below) and excercised very hard for 2+ hours a day and took ephedra.
If you're worried about someone who doesn't entirely fit the "anorexic" bill, I would google EDNOS, (eating disorder not otherwise specified). It can all take you down a really bad path. Now I'm COE (Compulsive Over eater.

My SIL had anorexia of the exercise type. She was never treated, but she had all the clinical symptoms: changing school or work for habits (she quit college to lose weight), exercising when unsafe or in pain (running on a broken foot), limiting calories severely, exercising about 4-6 hours per day (no kidding), obsession with exercise and food. Her AF completely stopped, another symptom, but is not surprising. She eventually reversed it but she had to quit exercising like that and it took about 2 years for AF to start sort of coming back. She also gained a lot of weight when she stopped the exercise--she's a big girl, about 5-10, not meant to be size 5 (try telling her idiot DH that though *snort*)

Because she "was" eating, most people didn't think she had a problem. She was also not anorexic-looking (like Nicole Richie or that Olsen twin used to be). But when I heard she quit college I knew something was up...and stopping AF is just bad news. Now that she's at her normal weight, I realize how skinny she had really gotten.

I know when i was in my teens i was down to just over 400calories a days, i would eat really small amounts of food.
I honestly think if i didn't have PCOS (which i didn't know about at the time) i would have been serious under weight.
You sound as though your worried about some one or yourself there are loads of help lines and great websites for people suffering from a eating disorder or a worried friend of family member.

I had mild anorexia in middle and high school. I am 5'4" and weighed 90 lbs. I tried to eat around 700 calories a day and exercised for about 3 hours a day on week days and 6 on weekends. It was totally unhealthy, but I was into ballet and that's just what we did.

Ephedra is a drug that is sometimes used in weight loss drugs (like Metabolife). It is actually very dangerous. One of my friends had a heart attack in her 20s from taking it. It can actually kill you. It is a form of "speed."

Why do you ask??

I guess my question is why are you asking? Are you concerned about someone? Yourself?
Eating disorders come in many different forms and there is not a set number of calories or excercise one has to do to be diagnosed with one.
Some people may not be a "typical" aneroxic or bullemic, but have exhibited symptoms of the disorder. They may eat 1500 calories a day, but spend 4 hours in the gym each day.
Someone may be on the outsides of a diagnosable eating disorder because of their total preoccupation with food, calories, excercise, etc.
So why are you asking this? Is it a friend you're concerned about? What has this person been doing to make you concerned?

I'm sorry if this is way off base, but to me this question seemed like it was asking for methods people use while anorexic so they can learn how to do it themselves.

Ahhhhhh... that makes me feel better. Glad you don't have someone in your life you're worried about! Good luck with the report!
